After that, manager Ron Washington and Maddux are planning to use these seven pitchers for one inning each (in order): The Rays' David Price, the Rangers' Matt Harrison, the Angels' Jered Weaver, the White Sox's Chris Sale, the Athletics' Ryan Cook, the Orioles' Jim Johnson and the Rays' Fernando Rodney.

He probably won't, but he's definitely eligible--if you fall short of the 502 plate appearances required, but would still win if you counted the missing PA as outs (which in Cabrera's case would only be one extra out), you win. If McCutchen tails off and Votto doesn't come back and come back strong, Cabrera would win.

I think MLB has to grant the extra ABs as outs.. It's not automatic, but I could be wrong. If he had an ankle injury he might be better positioned to be pushed through as champ.

Good question. I've been looking around and can't find anything that suggests it's not automatic, but it sounds reasonable that the league might want to cover itself that way. I thought the rule had something to do with Ted Williams, but apparently it only goes back as far as Tony Gwynn in '96:
