Didn't realize the 2/3 format was coming back... Rooting A's all the way, but they need that road split (at least) with Verlander pitching 1 & 5.
― kizz my hairy irish azz (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 4 October 2012 16:12 (thirteen years ago)
A's, A's, A's! I'll pick in 4.
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Thursday, 4 October 2012 16:25 (thirteen years ago)
Obviously super biased here.
There's an A's bar in Brooklyn I went to for the last 3 innings yesterday. I would be hanging out there for a lotta the games if I didn't have to skip my prescribed narcotic to drink beer. :/
― kizz my hairy irish azz (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 4 October 2012 16:27 (thirteen years ago)
gonna go A's
― congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 4 October 2012 16:40 (thirteen years ago)
not gonna bother with predictions this year, rooting for A's for sure

― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Thursday, 4 October 2012 16:52 (thirteen years ago)
Heart says A's, head says Tigers. Hopefully there will be a fourth game so my ticket doesn't vanish.
― pun lovin criminal (polyphonic), Thursday, 4 October 2012 17:20 (thirteen years ago)
Let's hope the Tigers beat the A's, to save the Bay area from another Giants/A's world series.
― peepee, Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:14 (thirteen years ago)
Didn't realize the 2/3 format was coming back
I think it's just this year? They added the 2nd wild card too late to set up the 2/2/1 scheduling, or something like that.
Definitely rooting for the A's, but I have a bad feeling that the Tigers will roll over them.
― NoTimeBeforeTime, Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:12 (thirteen years ago)
I think it's just this year.

Although the old series polls have been a mix of predictions and wishes.

anyways, rooting for the A's. no i don't live in the Bay Area anymore.

Verlander was my main interest last year, Cabrera this year, so I think I'll root for the Tigers to win everything. But if it's Oakland, Baltimore, or Washington, great.

― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Friday, 12 October 2012 14:35 (twelve years ago)
Disappointed I couldn't get this last night--had planned to tune in right after the debate. If Oakland had won, I wouldn't have minded at all after their amazing comeback the night before. Anyway, I didn't realize Verlander's start was, historically, this impressive (from SweetSpot):
Verlander’s Game Score of 89 was the highest ever in a "sudden death" game. The previous best was Sandy Koufax’s three-hit, 10-strikeout shutout in Game 7 of the 1965 World Series, which scored an 88. Checking in at 84 were Chris Carpenter’s three-hit shutout last year against the Phillies and Jack Morris’ 10-inning masterpiece in Game 7 of the 1991 World Series. Ralph Terry scored an 83 in the 1962 World Series Game 7, while Cliff Lee (2010 ALDS) and John Smoltz (1991 NLCS) scored 82s. The only others at 80: Orel Hershiser (1988 NLCS), Bob Gibson (1967 World Series) and Dizzy Dean (1934 World Series).
Ahead of Koufax, Gibson, and Morris's famous game.
― clemenza, Friday, 12 October 2012 22:33 (twelve years ago)
Morris would have pitched to the score last night.
