That's right: the last time a team overcame a 4-15 stretch to make the playoffs, in the midst of it THEY FIRED NED YOST. <drops mic>

Home runs since 5/15: #Cubs' pitchers, 3; #Royals, 2.

Andy K, Sunday, 26 May 2013 21:16 (eleven years ago) link

also i believe both those homers are from MIGUEL TEJADA

Frenchy ties it w/ a bomb! Must be the work of new interim hitting coach George Brett.

@robneyer 42m
Why did the Royals have to trade Wil Myers? Zero pitchers initially drafted or signed by Royals have started a game for Royals this season.

@jazayerli 18m
@robneyer Dude, zero pitchers signed by KC have started for ANYONE this season. Except Billy Buckner. Who beat the Royals. Then was DFA'ed.

The Kansas City Royals' relationship to Royals-fan sportswriters is a lot like the GOP's relationship to conservative policy wonks.

That's two players to fill the large shoes of Miguel Tejada. RIP big man.

Andy K, Wednesday, 14 August 2013 17:33 (eleven years ago) link

‏@jazayerli
So the Royals have Elliot Johnson, Chris Getz, and Jamey Carroll, and their two best second basemen are still in Omaha.

Andy K, Wednesday, 14 August 2013 17:36 (eleven years ago) link

‏@jazayerli
Elliot Johnson is 1-for-his-last-52, but hey, he's only in there for his defense. Oops.

i just turned on Fox Sports 1 to see what is all about and they broke in with news of the suspension of 105 games.

well he is now done.

Bee OK, Saturday, 17 August 2013 18:26 (eleven years ago) link

I'll be at the K for 3 hours before Saturday's game, including Q&A with the Royals Baseball Ops department. I'm kinda doubting Dayton will pull an Alderson and drop in.

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 20 August 2013 16:56 (eleven years ago) link

that sounds like fun, enjoy.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 21 August 2013 05:49 (eleven years ago) link

well the questions might be a little more edgy now, cuz last night's loss pretty much killed the Royals' illusions of contention.

It's Negro Leagues throwback uni night tho (Monarchs-Homestead Greys) and we get a shirt.

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 22 August 2013 13:56 (eleven years ago) link

The star of the past who gets the most t-shirt-wearing love at the K is Mike Sweeney. Saw one guy wearing Joe Randa, though.

There was a Q&A with four guys from the Royals Analytics Dept -- yes, they do have one, look!

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20121101&content_id=40144328¬ebook_id=40143242&vkey=notebook_kc&c_id=kc

So it was interesting to hear the different ways these guys came into baseball, with degrees like the atmospheric science dude from MIT. So it's not all Dayton Moore "homers and walks are too hard in our park" blather over there.

Also the Negro Leagues Museum prez was there, very effusive and likable guy. The museum is a good one but their biggest weakness is a reliance on replica uniforms and items, instead of genuine relics. They started in 1990, so a lot of that stuff was in the hands of private collectors already.

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 15:16 (eleven years ago) link

did the analytics dept agree with dayton moore that the royals are 'ahead of schedule'?

mookieproof, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 01:16 (eleven years ago) link

They didn't get any questions like that, and declined to discuss any specific player transactions.

i feel bad for royals fans, but i kinda feel like dayton moore should not be rewarded with success

rooting against general managers is my new thing

mookieproof, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 03:58 (eleven years ago) link

tbh if his goal was to get to the playoffs if only for one year and that happens, it will not have happened without james shields. WAR-wise what wil myers gave this year, even extrapolating for a full season, would have been worth maybe a win over what they put out there this yr. it was probably a dumb trade but hey FLAGS NEVER DIE w/e, and a winning season/possible playoffs = increased payroll in the future.

and maybe he deserves credit for putting together a great bullpen and an incredible defense

ned 'coast-to-coast' yost given two-year extension
