I just priced the Futures Game, having no real interest in anything else.... $50 for a decent seat (meh, OK) also requires a $30 FanFest ticket plus the usual fees.

Goldschmidt or Votto?

tie breaker voting criteria should be who is the most handsome

panettone for the painfully alone (mayor jingleberries), Thursday, 20 June 2013 16:04 (eleven years ago)

Goldy is hunkalicious imho

I have a lead on pair of Futures game tix, kinda deep LF but spose as good as i can snare.

ballin' from Maine to Mexico (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 20 June 2013 17:15 (eleven years ago)

(also slightly below face value)

Votto has clear lead if you go by the last 365 calendar days, but I'm starting to believe PG may have the better '13 at the end.

ballin' from Maine to Mexico (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 20 June 2013 17:19 (eleven years ago)

I'll take Votto but Goldy is definitely crushing it.

Maybe Goldschmidt or Votto can play shortstop for the AL

futures game - Morbs check out Joc Pederson for the Dodgers stats. Puig was the story on the team in AA but Joc has matched him and is actually younger.

21 year old in the notoriously pitcher friendly southern league

.302/.391/.523 13 hr, 31 rbi, 22-3 sb-cs ratio. He'll look great on whatever team sends us some crappy veteran pitcher because hes blocked by about 4 dudes and a billion dollars in the dodgers OF.

all star game - have puig play in the hr derby, thats it. everyone wins.

Jonathan Papelbon's appalled:

http://espn.go.com/mlb/allstar13/story/_/id/9445536/jonathan-papelbon-says-yasiel-puig-all-star-team-joke

Maybe I don't take the ASG seriously enough, but it seems obvious to me that Puig should be there. It's also amusing that it'd be a closer who'd complain. Apples and oranges, I know, but Puig's 231 innings so far are almost half of Papelbon's career total.

clemenza, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 16:51 (eleven years ago)

can't wait for the obligatory 2nd half walkoff HR bat flip from Puig against Papelbon

the 5 final-vote AL relievers -- whose idea? did Bowie Kuhn rise from the dead?

playwright Greg Marlowe, secretly in love with Mary (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 7 July 2013 07:29 (eleven years ago)

six Tigers, one Athletic, hmmmmm

playwright Greg Marlowe, secretly in love with Mary (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 7 July 2013 16:46 (eleven years ago)

Hmmmmm again: three from the Red Sox, three Jays. I'm pretty whatever when it comes the AS game--haven't watched one the whole way in years, and often skip it altogether--but I think the number of players from each team should more or less reflect the standings. As good as Brett Cecil's been this year, he didn't need to be picked.

clemenza, Sunday, 7 July 2013 17:58 (eleven years ago)

ya - that was a surprise. kinda neat to see a middle-relief guy tho, when it wasn't necessary to get a representative from a team in.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 8 July 2013 15:38 (eleven years ago)

also: how did Gibbons wind up on the team?!

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 8 July 2013 15:38 (eleven years ago)

Middle relief is undoubtedly the least celebrated job in baseball, awards- and honors-wise, so on that count, yeah, nice to see him make it. If there are 35 players on the team, my top-secret formula says the Jays deserve 2.282 roster spots. So three's not completely out of line.

Maybe someone confused him for Josh? Happens all the time.

clemenza, Monday, 8 July 2013 17:03 (eleven years ago)

(Didn't look at the link closely enough--they did get the surname right, which makes the error even weirder.)

clemenza, Monday, 8 July 2013 17:07 (eleven years ago)

too bad papelbon didn't make it -- he's having a nice season, insofar as a guy who participates in 4.4% of his team's play actually matters

mookieproof, Monday, 8 July 2013 18:23 (eleven years ago)

its a shame Papelbon didn't make it what with his charming personality and keen insights on who should and shouldn't be voted onto the team.

I guess we should stay long enough after the Futures Game to see Rickey swing.

Comedian Chris Rock, film and TV star Kevin James, singer and actress Ashanti, TV star George Lopez and more will join Mets Legends and Baseball Hall of Famers in the 2013 Taco Bell® Legends & Celebrity Softball Game at Citi Field on Sunday, July 14th. Additionally, former Mets catcher Mike Piazza has been added to the roster. Also joining are Hall of Famer and former Mets and Yankees outfielder Rickey Henderson along with former Yankees Bernie Williams, who joins as the American League Captain. Williams will rival former Mets John Franco as the National League Captain. The Softball Game will be televised immediately following the Chevrolet Home Run Derby on ESPN on July 15th.

In addition to Henderson, Franco, Piazza and Williams, MLB Legends that were previously announced and are scheduled to participate include Dwight Gooden, Darryl Strawberry, Andre Dawson, Rollie Fingers, Fred Lynn, Ozzie Smith, and Frank Thomas.

playwright Greg Marlowe, secretly in love with Mary (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 10 July 2013 16:14 (eleven years ago)

With Delabar, that's 4 out of 36 from an underperforming last-place team. Sorry, Oakland--seriously, it's kind of embarrassing.
