both are currently 8-22, i.e. on pace to lose 118 games

astros: 15th in scoring, 13th in batting, 24th on obp, 11th in slugging, 30th in era, 30th in whip, 30th in baa (.298!)

marlins: 30th in scoring, 29th in batting, 29th in obp (.288!), 30th in slugging (.315!), 23rd in era, 26th in whip, 23rd in baa

(marlins are last in slugging by a *long* way; astros are last in those pitching categories by a *lot*)

i stand by my assertion that Houston will be historically bad.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Saturday, 4 May 2013 05:02 (twelve years ago)

depends on stanton

infirm neophytic child (zachlyon), Saturday, 4 May 2013 05:23 (twelve years ago)

Yeah the Marlins offense isn't really as bad as it's been, but the Astros are playing closer to their true talent level.

they're both 2 games worse than Toronto

truth bomb, unfortunately :(

NoTimeBeforeTime, Saturday, 4 May 2013 10:13 (twelve years ago)

Astros will get to beat up on Toronto more often, so them.

seven people are very wrong.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 00:39 (twelve years ago)

astros are better at hitting than the marlins are at pitching and so far the NL East seems more challenging than the AL West

without stanton the m's are one of the worst offensive teams ever, and their pitchers aren't even as good as they've performed

infirm neophytic child (zachlyon), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 00:51 (twelve years ago)

Thermo voting all-Marlin All-Star team

ballin' from Maine to Mexico (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 00:59 (twelve years ago)

if it was a league of just the Astros and Marlins: yes.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 01:45 (twelve years ago)

Stanton isn't going to be out too long (at least it doesn't look that way).

both divisions are pretty closely matched, but personally, i'd rather be playing in the NL east. i think hitting-wise the mediocrity featured in the 'Stros lined up is about on par with the filler on the Marlins; sans Stanton. and pitching-wise the Astros are abysmal. compared to them, the Marlins are the 1995 fucking Braves. and i realize the Marlins are very terrible.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 01:46 (twelve years ago)

c'mon TT, you wouldn't take Jose Altuve over, uh, whoever the Marlins' 2b is?

Third series win of the season for Houston! Only 1.5 games behind the mighty Angels.

it'll be interesting to see what impact guys like ozuna, dietrich and yelich might have.

mookieproof, Thursday, 9 May 2013 21:30 (twelve years ago)

c'mon TT, you wouldn't take Jose Altuve over, uh, whoever the Marlins' 2b is?

yes. AND THAT IS THE LONE POSITION WHERE THE MARLINS HAVE A CLEAR ADVANTAGE!

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 9 May 2013 21:41 (twelve years ago)

wait what? the marlins have a clear advantage with "donovan" "solano" and "chris" "valaika" (possibly not real people)??

infirm neophytic child (zachlyon), Thursday, 9 May 2013 21:51 (twelve years ago)

altuve has been worth 2.0 more WAR than those two

infirm neophytic child (zachlyon), Thursday, 9 May 2013 21:51 (twelve years ago)

TT just wrote the opp of what he meant, in his Canadian lather.

ballin' from Maine to Mexico (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 9 May 2013 23:49 (twelve years ago)

donovan solano leads all qualifying marlins with a .278 average and .333 obp

mookieproof, Thursday, 9 May 2013 23:52 (twelve years ago)

ya meant astros. they're both teams devoid of anything really, outside from one position player of note on each team.

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 22 September 2013 22:21 (eleven years ago)

What a lousy return they got:

Maybin: 144 games across three seasons w/ Marlins (.257/.323/.391)

Miller: Three seasons w/ Marlins (5.89 ERA).

Badenhop: Four years of relieving w/ Marlins (mostly mop-up, right?) (4.34 ERA).

Funeral on a Ship: Appeared in six '08 games w/ an 18.00 ERA.

Mike Rabelo: Played in 34 '08 games (.202/.256/.294).

Dallas Trahern: Didn't make it past AAA.

^^ post obviously honoring and supporting Qualcomm (zachlyon), Sunday, 22 September 2013 23:14 (eleven years ago)

i'm going to go ahead and start gloating now. they're already at 108 loses - even if the sweep the yankees in their final series - which is laughably unlikely - there will only be one team in the last 50 years that had a worse record (2003 Tigers).

i stand by my assertion that Houston will be historically bad.

It's a full life, isn't it? Especially when it was all downhill after that Opening Day "we're winning the pennant" Jays ceremony.
