dodgers on the verge of acquiring ricky nolasco, according to reports
― mookieproof, Thursday, 27 June 2013 20:31 (twelve years ago)
tbf i don't know what the dodgers have that the marlins would want? i like joc pederson but the marlins seem pretty well set up for outfielders (until they trade giancarlo i guess). i don't really believe in zach lee and their other pitching prospects can't find the strike zone.
― mookieproof, Friday, 28 June 2013 00:29 (twelve years ago)
oh wait 16yo julio urias would be perfect -- the marlins could be seen doing *something* without having to actually spend any money for years, if ever
― mookieproof, Friday, 28 June 2013 00:45 (twelve years ago)
How much pitching do you think it would take to get Mark Trumbo out of the Angels?
― earlnash, Friday, 28 June 2013 02:07 (twelve years ago)
can u imagine being 16 and being traded to the marlins

jose fernandez is in the majors at 20; if he were a twin he'd have been in triple-a until he was 24. 16yo kids from mexico don't care about jeffrey loria's first-world transgressions

Apparently the White Sox will listen to offers for everyone other than Konerko and Sale.
― NoTimeBeforeTime, Friday, 28 June 2013 08:13 (twelve years ago)
yeah the only thing the dodgers could offer the marlins is pitching.. someone like chris reed or ross stripling and a reliever prospect would probably get it done.
but yeah dudes dont sleep on urias. 16 yo in high a is fucking crazy. he has a wonk eye tho which is kind of interesting.
The Dodgers had to wait until Urias turned 16 on Aug. 12 before signing him. They were able to land Urias and three other prospects for $1.8 million. Some teams heard rumors that Urias couldn't see well out of his left eye, which has a saggy appearance due to a tumor he had removed as a child. The Dodgers did enough medical research to know that Urias could see fine out of both eyes.

medical research = "close your right eye. can you read that sign across the street there? perfect. take this money"

Braves Acquire LH Reliever Scott Downs For Basically Nothing, i.e. cory rasmus
rangers interested in mccann?
― mookieproof, Monday, 29 July 2013 16:59 (twelve years ago)
I wouldn't be surprised if the Braves don't re-sign McCann after the season, but I would be a little surprised if they unloaded him this week.

Proposed trade by me: A's get Michael Young and eat most of the salary on his expiring deal, Phillies get Bruce Billings (27, AAA, 4.37 ERA, 103 strikeouts, 1.29 WHIP).
― polyphonic, Monday, 29 July 2013 17:04 (twelve years ago)
yanks should deal cano imo
now there's a guy who could fetch a "zach wheeler-type" prospect or two, unlike bobby parnell (lol). and if the yankees offered him the most money this winter, would he not then return?
tru yankee fans don't like him anyway, iirc -- too half-assed/cocky, less able to market tri-state-area ford automobiles

rumors of bud norris to pittsburgh for a package built around low-a prospect tyler glasnow
not too enthralled by that tbh
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 30 July 2013 17:23 (twelve years ago)
do the pirates have a problem with the starting rotation? it's been a while since i looked but i was under the impression that their starters have performed quite well this year.
― Z S, Tuesday, 30 July 2013 17:29 (twelve years ago)
Bud Norris has a higher ERA than any of the guys listed on their depth chart at the moment.
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 30 July 2013 17:46 (twelve years ago)
i wonder if they're thinking about the playoffs? bud norris, somehow, has MURDERED the cardinals over the last few seasons.
but god, if that's playing even a minuscule role in their decision making process...smh
― Z S, Tuesday, 30 July 2013 17:55 (twelve years ago)
bud norris is a league-average pitcher. it's always nice to have more pitching depth, especially since jeff locke is doing it with mirrors, etc. but yeah, pitching is not a particular pirate weakness and glasnow's probably the pirates' no. 2 pitching prospect now that cole's in the majors.
also rumored to be picking up alex rios, but it better be with money and not for anything decent. i mean, he's an upgrade in rf, but almost anything would be.

Brian Wilson is a Dodger (minor leaguer).
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 30 July 2013 18:36 (twelve years ago)
Kind of a quiet trade period. St. Louis has made some good moves in the past few years this time, but they seem pretty quiet. I'd figured they might go get a reliever.
― earlnash, Tuesday, 30 July 2013 21:40 (twelve years ago)
Reds just don't have the depths now in the upper minor-leagues to really make a deal other than letting their 2 best prospects go (Robert Christiansen-P & Billy Hamilton CF/SS. Most of the Reds top prospects past couple of years are in the bigs with the Reds or someone else.
― earlnash, Tuesday, 30 July 2013 21:43 (twelve years ago)
if they can find someone that's excited about hamilton, they should deal him imo. hamilton is like vince coleman but even worse

― mookieproof, Tuesday, 30 July 2013 22:03 (twelve years ago)
With Sean Marshall still out for a while, I think the Reds might try to get a reliever. Broxton is due to come back, but that would probably just mean either Curtis Partch or Logan Ondrusek would probably be going down.
Reds probably could use Partch or Ondrusek as parts of a deal. Ondrusek isn't great, but has his days both good and bad. He would be higher in the slot in a lot of clubs bullpen. Partch is really raw. Even my eyes can see the guy's release point and delivery vary quite a bit, which is part of the reason he is kinda wild. The guy can throw heat though, he gets up in the 95-96 range quite a bit and has had a few lights out innings. Add in the unhappy but very MLB experienced reliever Jose Arredondo, I'd figure these are Reds that clubs might go and get.

This year: low contact rate, high swing rate, high BABIP.
Dombrowski wasn't lying when he said "We're not looking for a bat."
Great move, I think, considering the situation.

padres about to trade joe thatcher and a prospect to the dbacks for ian kennedy. I know the dbacks have rotation depth since they raped the angels in the haren trade but this return and this entire trade seems stupid to me

Thatcher has never been much more than a LOOGY, and Stites the minor leaguer is a power reliever. Strange trade for the DBacks. Kennedy is awful this year but he's under team control for two more years.
