Bee OK, Tuesday, 1 October 2013 03:30 (ten years ago) link

wow - i had no idea Salazar was doing so well!
maybe i never took him seriously because he sounds like a character from futurama.

oh shit - i was looking at his AAA numbers for this year, not ml. still impressive either way.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 1 October 2013 03:55 (ten years ago) link

I picked the Indians. Just a feeling.

CLEVELAND -- Of the many reasons the Indians won an AL wild-card spot with a stunning September surge, manager Terry Francona joked that it had nothing to do with his final days in Boston.

"We stayed away from chicken and beer," he cracked. "That helped."

Andy K, Wednesday, 2 October 2013 00:51 (ten years ago) link

Raburn (RF tonight) will make a crucial error/misjudgment and hit a crucial home run.

Andy K, Wednesday, 2 October 2013 19:32 (ten years ago) link

DYoung v RRaburn

at start of year, BP Prospects Guide pegs Salazar as potential "electric #3" or great setup man

k3vin k., Thursday, 3 October 2013 00:35 (ten years ago) link

i'm guessin he's not a burner?

Casey Stengel always found a place on the field for as many bats as possible, so he woulda played Raburn too.

Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 3 October 2013 01:15 (ten years ago) link

Tampa Bay Rays @RaysBaseball
Delmon Young hit a go-ahead HR for #Rays and was intentionally walked in a playoff game. *Things people didn't expect to hear in 2013*

mookieproof, Thursday, 3 October 2013 01:19 (ten years ago) link

spencer tracy coaching the rays

Bee OK, Thursday, 3 October 2013 02:52 (ten years ago) link

With runners on base during a playoff game, Nick Swisher strikes out.

Andy K, Thursday, 3 October 2013 02:53 (ten years ago) link

but you saw that coming with that swing on strike two

Bee OK, Thursday, 3 October 2013 02:53 (ten years ago) link

besides racism, Tribe would likely get swept by Boston

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 3 October 2013 02:54 (ten years ago) link

tbf it's not like boston fans are any less racist

mookieproof, Thursday, 3 October 2013 02:56 (ten years ago) link

ouch

Bee OK, Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:02 (ten years ago) link

I've probably seen almost every Swisher playoff at-bat. He doesn't seem to be the poised/patient hitter he is during the regular season.

xpost

Andy K, Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:03 (ten years ago) link

Prior to tonight, Swisher had 181 postseason PAs with 46 Ks, 24 BBs. That's no good.

Andy K, Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:08 (ten years ago) link

"I'm sure it was dropped on accident."

Andy K, Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:15 (ten years ago) link

Looked like DeJesus said, "The fuck," annnnd then we see a couple Cleveland fans yell at him.

Andy K, Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:19 (ten years ago) link

Ten LOB for Cleveland so far.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:27 (ten years ago) link

you can't do that in the post season

Bee OK, Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:34 (ten years ago) link

he should have had that

Bee OK, Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:35 (ten years ago) link

wd be less embarrassing if Indians' season HAD ended in August

b-b-ut mook, they cheered Ortiz when he said "This is our fucking city."

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:37 (ten years ago) link

100

Bee OK, Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:47 (ten years ago) link

two sudden death games and they win both, that is sort of impressive

Bee OK, Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:49 (ten years ago) link

Kipnis crying? Aw, man.

Andy K, Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:50 (ten years ago) link

Two sudden death AWAY games.

Andy K, Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:50 (ten years ago) link

Oh, wait, nm.

Andy K, Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:50 (ten years ago) link

Yes, both away.

Time for bed.

Andy K, Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:51 (ten years ago) link

three, almost

mookieproof, Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:51 (ten years ago) link

who starts Friday?

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:52 (ten years ago) link

no rooting interest but sudden death games still way stupid

best null wave (bnw), Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:52 (ten years ago) link

moore, on full rest, i'd imagine

mookieproof, Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:53 (ten years ago) link

This was a sorta gradual death game, though.

Andy K, Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:54 (ten years ago) link

sudden death games still way stupid

yeah

but is it worse than nothing? i guess it seems bad because we're used to one wild card getting a full share, but still

mookieproof, Thursday, 3 October 2013 03:58 (ten years ago) link

ESPN Stats & Info @ESPNStatsInfo
Delmon Young now has the game-winning RBI in each of his team's last 5 postseason wins.

mookieproof, Thursday, 3 October 2013 04:00 (ten years ago) link

yeah i know it's different for MLB but i sort of like it because these teams didn't win their division.

Bee OK, Thursday, 3 October 2013 04:01 (ten years ago) link

i keep thinking they should make it 2 out of 3 but god i don't really want more october baseball

^^ post obviously honoring and supporting Qualcomm (zachlyon), Thursday, 3 October 2013 04:01 (ten years ago) link

no, it's not stupid. October never proved who the best team was.

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 3 October 2013 04:03 (ten years ago) link

oh well. congrats to the rays and their fans. i'm still happy with our season anyway. love tito, love chris antonetti, hope we can get a power hitter or two in the offseason, but whatever happens i'm sure the attendance will be better next year. the future looks bright!

Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 3 October 2013 04:04 (ten years ago) link

the indians are God's team

i wanna be a gabbneb baby (Hungry4Ass), Thursday, 3 October 2013 04:04 (ten years ago) link

having one wild card seems more fair to me -- and often enough that team would have won a different division -- but yeah, win your division + everyone television loves sudden death

mookieproof, Thursday, 3 October 2013 04:05 (ten years ago) link

TBS is embarrassing

^^ post obviously honoring and supporting Qualcomm (zachlyon), Thursday, 3 October 2013 04:19 (ten years ago) link

i sort of like the new guys viewpoint

Bee OK, Thursday, 3 October 2013 04:24 (ten years ago) link

and really like Keith Olbermann as host. never knew he was a baseball fan.

you are right about the rest however.

Bee OK, Thursday, 3 October 2013 04:26 (ten years ago) link

yeah pedro's gr8

^^ post obviously honoring and supporting Qualcomm (zachlyon), Thursday, 3 October 2013 04:26 (ten years ago) link

and really like Keith Olbermann as host. never knew he was a baseball fan.

hmmmmmmmmmm

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 3 October 2013 04:31 (ten years ago) link

lol i was too young and disinterested at the time but i'm sad that there are people who think of olbermann as primarily not a sportscaster
