Just watched the opener archive, 4 hours late... Arizona needs the NL to pass an emergency DH rule to save them from Trumbo's glove.

are the red-sox supposed to be major contenders again? haven't paid attention to MLB is years now, but now it seems charming again.

Daniel, Esq 2, Saturday, 22 March 2014 15:35 (eleven years ago)

i didn't even realize the opener was today! or last night. or whatever.

SYDNEY -- Manager Don Mattingly struggled Friday trying to explain to an Australian reporter, in baseball terms, just what makes Clayton Kershaw so special, when all he really had to say was, 'Just watch.'

Don Mattingly the great ambassador for baseball

love and light (Karl Malone), Saturday, 22 March 2014 15:51 (eleven years ago)

"If you stay with us over the course of a season, you'd understand the importance of Clayton," Mattingly said, when given another shot in the postgame news conference.

yep, expected to win the division. if all else fails, you can always check out fangraph's projected standings and amaze your friends with your ability to tell the future

panettone for the painfully alone (mayor jingleberries), Friday, 28 March 2014 02:40 (eleven years ago)

i dont see that, but it's probably los diablos rojos del mexico (city). they're playing veracruz over the weekend

mookieproof, Friday, 28 March 2014 03:02 (eleven years ago)

Is Quentin on the DL @QuentinOnDL
Yes

Andy K, Sunday, 30 March 2014 20:41 (eleven years ago)

Brian Wilson is imploding in the 8th and so the Padres took the lead. Fun atmosphere at PETCO.

Van Horn Street, Monday, 31 March 2014 02:42 (eleven years ago)

mookieproof, Monday, 31 March 2014 17:24 (eleven years ago)

"Written in the Stars" on repeat all day. So hyped.

Evan R, Monday, 31 March 2014 17:30 (eleven years ago)

poly what are your thoughts on the rizzo/cashner trade? kinda interesting to look at in hindsight

Cashner seems like he could become a workhorse. His velocity is great, but as a pitcher he's still figuring some stuff out.

Rizzo was atrocious in his one season with the Padres, so I'm glad the result of the trade was a legit major league player and not a bag of balls and two PTBNL's.

polyphonic, Monday, 31 March 2014 18:13 (eleven years ago)

Braun's first AB is gonna be a home run, calling it now

Ryan Braun gets a standing ovation from the Milwaukee fans after returning from 65-game suspension

burn milwaukee to the ground imo

mookieproof, Monday, 31 March 2014 18:52 (eleven years ago)

frogbs, Monday, 31 March 2014 19:05 (eleven years ago)

yeah for real; he's all we got cut us a break

Evan R, Monday, 31 March 2014 19:13 (eleven years ago)

this rangers-phillies game might go on for a while

mookieproof, Monday, 31 March 2014 19:33 (eleven years ago)

@SarahSpain
I had a feeling #Brewers fans were idiots, but a standing ovation for Lyin' Ryan Braun is a whole new level of stupidity.

Sweet Christ it's going to be a long season

Evan R, Monday, 31 March 2014 19:34 (eleven years ago)

difference between "cheering for a guy" and "standing ovation" come on

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Monday, 31 March 2014 19:42 (eleven years ago)

Interleague on Opening Day still made me do a double take

images of war violence and historical smoking (Dr Morbius), Monday, 31 March 2014 19:49 (eleven years ago)

Thank you for telling us the exact right amount we should be cheering for him. I was afraid we were supposed to root against him, but now I know we can cheer, if only in polite moderation.

Evan R, Monday, 31 March 2014 19:51 (eleven years ago)

way to get it dude

standing ovation in this case is loaded, most people probably standing up to say "we support you in your recovery from this awful strd infliction you've inflicted on yourself we got yr back" but it's not hard to read it as "hey you got boned we always had your back selig did 9/11"

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Monday, 31 March 2014 19:53 (eleven years ago)

lol not a single Brewer fan I know things Braun is innocent. we're just glad to have him back. keep in mind this team hadn't made the playoffs for TWENTY SIX YEARS at one point.

frogbs, Monday, 31 March 2014 20:09 (eleven years ago)

Yeah, overwhelming consensus is that Braun is a lying douchebag largely responsible for the hell the team endured last season. But you can understand why fans don't like being ridiculed as backwoods hicks because they're excited to have the star player the team's entire future hinges on back in the lineup after an ugly long absence.

Evan R, Monday, 31 March 2014 20:15 (eleven years ago)

I don't really think Milwaukee should be burned to the ground fwiw

polyphonic, Monday, 31 March 2014 20:17 (eleven years ago)

hahaha phew!

Evan R, Monday, 31 March 2014 20:20 (eleven years ago)

but if he relieves and walks someone this weekend, he could lose it!

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 25 September 2014 11:11 (eleven years ago)

If Mariners win all four and both the Royals and A's win exactly one game, there will be a play-in game for the play-in game to the playoff game to get in the playoffs. Bud Selig's exoskeleton would split at the seams, and the beetle creature inside would fly away at top speed. "Screw this," he'd click. So that's probably the scenario we should all root for.

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 25 September 2014 22:01 (eleven years ago)

twins offered to let hughes relieve and he declined, saying he didn't want to blow his record by walking anyone risk injury

mookieproof, Thursday, 25 September 2014 22:02 (eleven years ago)

If there was a most improved player award surely Hughes will get it, that jump is spectacular. Also lol yankees.

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 25 September 2014 22:06 (eleven years ago)

is 28 too young to win the comeback player of the year award?

Karl Malone, Thursday, 25 September 2014 22:18 (eleven years ago)

obviously jeter wins comeback player after returning from a broken ankle to post numbers that are almost singularly awful

mookieproof, Thursday, 25 September 2014 22:22 (eleven years ago)

AZ is turning into the 1989 WS with new GM Dave Stewart taking a job from his old boss Tony LaRussa. Considering the Kirk Gibson shot off Eck, I'm not sure he will be around for much longer. I hope someone like Carney Lansford or some other odd ex-A's guy ends up a coach there.

earlnash, Friday, 26 September 2014 04:37 (eleven years ago)

1988 WS w/Dodgers..89 was quake series.

I have to go to the NY Film Festival tomw at 3, but i assume there'll be at least one game on Monday.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Sunday, 28 September 2014 19:51 (eleven years ago)

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Monday, 29 September 2014 15:14 (eleven years ago)

His adjusted OPS at home and on the road are identical, and his home/road OBP's are almost the same too. His doubles on the road turned into homers at Coors, but otherwise he was the same hitter no matter where he played.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Monday, 29 September 2014 15:25 (eleven years ago)

local tv ratings/audience size

the astros averaged 8,000 viewers per game; the next lowest was the marlins at 27,000

mookieproof, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 14:58 (eleven years ago)
