Teams You Are Rooting For (Besides Your Team)

I'm letting LoDuca's Nats presence slide, tho.

cardinals (all my friends here at school are like diehards so it may be osmosis at this point)
tigers (<3 old marlins)

Royals. They have never been good (that I know of) and yet they toil away so valiantly.

In a general sense that is. Dodgers/Angels are my primary secondary teams.

Royals, Giants, Nats for reasons listed above

White Sox because I lived in Chicago; Cubs too, if we weren't in the same division, and if their traveling fans weren't asshats

Dodgers because I was a huge Dodgers fan as a kid and was actually in their fan club and got mailings and stuff. (I am exempt from having to root for them forevermore because I really mostly liked them to compete with my dad, the Giants fan.)

Mariners and Blue Jays because they sucked so hard when they first started -- I had a Jays batting helmet thingy stolen from my locker in jr. high and I'll still whip the ass of whoever stole it if I ever find out

I really don't have a team. I have my fantasy teams, and I root for whoever is giving me serious points.

I saw an interesting HBO Sports documentary on the Bums' move West and how closely intertwined the Dodgers' fortunes were with the Giants. Apparently O'Malley had to convince the Giants' owner to put a team up in the Bay (rather than just closing down since they were getting starved out of the Polo Grounds) so the Dodgers would have someone to play against. (New York master planner Robert Moses comes off as a major jerk.)

So now I feel more love for the Giants, because they helped LA win a ball club and become a real city.

D-Backs (don't tell anyone!), Nats, Athletics, Royals, Orioles, Marlins ... you know, the perennial losers.

Nationals (loved them as the Expos, reactionarily hated them upon the move, now love them again)
Reds (since the Larkin/Sabo era)
A's

really taken a shine to the royals and the pirates and though i don't like the reds, i think i'm really going o enjoy following cueto and volquez.

Red Sox, 'cuz they're always on my tv;
White Sox, 'cuz they spring trained in a town I grew up in;
Pirates, 'cuz they're my brother's favorite team.

But I would happily consign all three to a century of failure if it'd help the Braves win won more championship.

Reds - had a Reds cap when I was a baby, and my mum lived in Cincinatti for a while
Blue Jays - <3 Canada
Orioles - birds are cute!
Twins - only baseball game I've been to was the Twins AA affiliate (New Britain Rock Cats)

Besides the Mets, I've always rooted for KC, since the George Brett days. I've also liked the Brewers off and on.

I have crush on the Padres because I think DePodesta got a raw deal getting run out of LA and I'm glad he's back in baseball.

root for the cubs and white sox because one of them is on broadcast tv almost every day during the summer and who wants to watch pointless games when you aren't really invested in the team?

I thought the love affair for the Braves might be cooling off since Time-Warner and Liberty Media made such a show of them being an item on a balance sheet, or a Ms. Pinky doll to be passed back and forth and rinsed out every now and then. But all teams are, so why take it out on the Braves.

rock, did you SEE any of those chisox games last year? brutal. almost turned me off of baseball altogether. the sporting equivalent of a snuff film.

I root for the Padres' 60 day disabled list.

xpost -- I always blame the broadcasters instead of the teams for mind-numbing baseball, but I admit I didn't watch many Sox games last year.

the Pads are are another team I've always wanted to see do well. never even thought about why tho.
