And not for fantasy reasons, either!
Oakland Tampa Bay Washington (LASTINGS!) Kansas City
I guess the Indians & Mets, too, but there are some things about them (Wedge & JoBo / the Milledge fiasco & Willie) that turn me off.
― David R., Wednesday, 9 April 2008 05:05 (seventeen years ago)
I'm letting LoDuca's Nats presence slide, tho.
― David R., Wednesday, 9 April 2008 05:06 (seventeen years ago)
cardinals (all my friends here at school are like diehards so it may be osmosis at this point) tigers (<3 old marlins)
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 9 April 2008 05:07 (seventeen years ago)
Royals. They have never been good (that I know of) and yet they toil away so valiantly.
― felicity, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 05:09 (seventeen years ago)
In a general sense that is. Dodgers/Angels are my primary secondary teams.
― felicity, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 05:11 (seventeen years ago)
Royals, Giants, Nats for reasons listed above
White Sox because I lived in Chicago; Cubs too, if we weren't in the same division, and if their traveling fans weren't asshats
Dodgers because I was a huge Dodgers fan as a kid and was actually in their fan club and got mailings and stuff. (I am exempt from having to root for them forevermore because I really mostly liked them to compete with my dad, the Giants fan.)
Mariners and Blue Jays because they sucked so hard when they first started -- I had a Jays batting helmet thingy stolen from my locker in jr. high and I'll still whip the ass of whoever stole it if I ever find out
― Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 06:03 (seventeen years ago)
I really don't have a team. I have my fantasy teams, and I root for whoever is giving me serious points.
― Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 06:19 (seventeen years ago)
I saw an interesting HBO Sports documentary on the Bums' move West and how closely intertwined the Dodgers' fortunes were with the Giants. Apparently O'Malley had to convince the Giants' owner to put a team up in the Bay (rather than just closing down since they were getting starved out of the Polo Grounds) so the Dodgers would have someone to play against. (New York master planner Robert Moses comes off as a major jerk.)
So now I feel more love for the Giants, because they helped LA win a ball club and become a real city.
― felicity, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 06:32 (seventeen years ago)
D-Backs (don't tell anyone!), Nats, Athletics, Royals, Orioles, Marlins ... you know, the perennial losers.
― polyphonic, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 06:37 (seventeen years ago)
Nationals (loved them as the Expos, reactionarily hated them upon the move, now love them again) Reds (since the Larkin/Sabo era) A's
― Andy K, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 10:49 (seventeen years ago)
really taken a shine to the royals and the pirates and though i don't like the reds, i think i'm really going o enjoy following cueto and volquez.
(i actively follow o's, nats, phils)
― j.q higgins, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 11:30 (seventeen years ago)
Red Sox, 'cuz they're always on my tv; White Sox, 'cuz they spring trained in a town I grew up in; Pirates, 'cuz they're my brother's favorite team.
But I would happily consign all three to a century of failure if it'd help the Braves win won more championship.
― Garrett Martin, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 13:10 (seventeen years ago)
Reds - had a Reds cap when I was a baby, and my mum lived in Cincinatti for a while Blue Jays - <3 Canada Orioles - birds are cute! Twins - only baseball game I've been to was the Twins AA affiliate (New Britain Rock Cats)
― Mark C, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 13:23 (seventeen years ago)
does not compute.
(Indians, actually)
I root for whoever is giving me serious points.

The Brewers - because i think the whole cheese and beer thing is just precious.

(and delicious)
this needs a companion thread!

― gabbneb, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 15:09 (seventeen years ago)
There must be a few of you who were rooting for the Rox last Rocktober, right? Has the <3 gone? ;_;
― Mark C, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 15:53 (seventeen years ago)
Holliday still hasn't touched etc.
― polyphonic, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 16:35 (seventeen years ago)
Besides the Mets, I've always rooted for KC, since the George Brett days. I've also liked the Brewers off and on.
― Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 17:04 (seventeen years ago)
I have crush on the Padres because I think DePodesta got a raw deal getting run out of LA and I'm glad he's back in baseball.
― Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 17:07 (seventeen years ago)
Tampa Bay Kansas City Indians Brewers Whoever is playing the Giants (who I want to see lose 120+ games) or the Yankees
― Alex in SF, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 17:11 (seventeen years ago)
Also, I will root for whoever signs Bonds.
― Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 18:00 (seventeen years ago)
root for the cubs and white sox because one of them is on broadcast tv almost every day during the summer and who wants to watch pointless games when you aren't really invested in the team?
― chicago kevin, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 18:05 (seventeen years ago)
I thought the love affair for the Braves might be cooling off since Time-Warner and Liberty Media made such a show of them being an item on a balance sheet, or a Ms. Pinky doll to be passed back and forth and rinsed out every now and then. But all teams are, so why take it out on the Braves.
Red Sox Has enough of the middle and upper management of the Pirates turned over to start liking them yet?
pointless games
Aww, no such thing.
― Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 18:07 (seventeen years ago)
rock, did you SEE any of those chisox games last year? brutal. almost turned me off of baseball altogether. the sporting equivalent of a snuff film.
― chicago kevin, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 18:11 (seventeen years ago)
I root for the Padres' 60 day disabled list.
― felicity, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 18:18 (seventeen years ago)
xpost -- I always blame the broadcasters instead of the teams for mind-numbing baseball, but I admit I didn't watch many Sox games last year.
― Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 18:49 (seventeen years ago)
My team:
Red Sox
NL Teams whose victories I do not entirely object to:
Dbacks Pads Brew Crew
I'm not an intolerant person, but I actively hate every other baseball team.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 18:57 (seventeen years ago)
the Pads are are another team I've always wanted to see do well. never even thought about why tho. Tony Gwynn? Jake Peavy? Ron Burgundy? who knows.
― The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 19:03 (seventeen years ago)
mets, nats, twins, red sox (strangely), athletics
i'm fond of the whole al central except for the white sox
― mookieproof, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 19:31 (seventeen years ago)
Just what is it about shared dual baseball/football ashtray stadia that makes them so friendly to young pitching prospects? (and shoe-in first ballot Hall of Fame soft-tossers -- Maddox not Trevor Time -- although maybe??)
You stay classy, Thermo Thinwall.
― felicity, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 20:27 (seventeen years ago)
Seahawks
― gabbneb, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 20:28 (seventeen years ago)
Yellow flag. Can you please take that to I Love Violence and Meetings.
This is a SERIOUS board for SERIOUS baseball talk.
― felicity, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 20:30 (seventeen years ago)
Wait, did Shasta hack into felicity's account or something?
― David R., Wednesday, 9 April 2008 20:32 (seventeen years ago)
he meant sea dogs xp
― mookieproof, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 20:35 (seventeen years ago)
"A Beagle-Bassett Hound mixed breed puppy attacked a middle school student at Boston's Fenway Park, jumping from the bleachers on to her scalp and begging for rawhide treats."
I guess that's understandable confusion.
― felicity, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 20:37 (seventeen years ago)
Shasta, Shoewizard says you should start rooting for the Mariners. They need a DH.
