i wouldn't but there don't seem to be any female posters making arguments aimless & morbs were making? matt's was an extremely unchill post but i understand his frustration with the tone & way in which they were talking about it. tbf aimless posts the same way about everything so it's not exactly a huge transgression that he made an analogy b/w rape culture and laws in ancient athens, taken in the context of his, like, 19th century social theorist persona.

Part of the reason it was different this time is bcz Suzy has pretty much chosen to argue with this ban by asking petty questions of the mods, and in doing so she happened to talk past the reasons for the original ban, going so far as degrading the reasoning behind it, and then inventing a bullshit story as to how this poster evaded the ban. We all ended up laughing about it. Poster wins has a new handle, but its pretty disgusting and I ended up giving her an FP.

I really dislike the forensic discussion of a person's mental status they can't be here to defend themselves on, fwiw. I don't think it's a good look. ILX does this a *lot* and it has always felt extremely ick.

I agree on the broader point but I also think that categorising the entire discussion thus far as such is misleading.

The compassionate thing with this poster is to keep them banned bc ilx was bad for them. Also to not talk about them bc they are reading all of this.

There was never anything to discuss, if we hadn’t had a day of timewasting nonsense we’d have all moved on by now

fwiw i'm not coming at this as a "post-mortem" or as any kind of critical interrogation of the mods' actions. they acted well, and they acted well under extremely difficult circumstances. in fact i'd like to actively praise the mods here for their handling of things, because i have some idea of how difficult it is when faced with situations like this. i also agree with xyzzz___'s post... this isn't about banned post, it's about us. because it is true that behavior like banned poster's takes a heavy toll on the communities where regulars engage in that behavior. i do think that banning them was an act of compassion - to _us_, not to _them_. they're an adult. ilx isn't acting in loco parentis here.

banned poster was on ILX for a very long time and affected many of us... while i didn't consider them a friend, they were in some sense a role model to me, which does make coming to terms with the shit they did difficult. particularly in terms of differentiating myself from them - i definitely relate a lot to deflatormouse's point. there's this constant question in my head of "god, am i like that?" nobody is truly like banned poster except banned poster, and while i can have empathy, i know it doesn't do me any favors to compare myself to them.

anyway, i'm glad to have had the space to kind of... talk with other people affected by banned poster's behavior about this. my intent isn't to negatively judge anybody else here.
