the straight between cagliari and siciliy is if i remember correctly something like eight miles at its narrowest

there is some sort of autochthonous version of the camorra or the ndrangheta or suchlike whose name i can't remember

some wikipedia articles have pages in 'sardu' which is the local dialect presumably

berlusconi has some sort of occulted sybaritic lair there that journalists don't have access to

it was under aragonese dominion for some time

this is why carignan/carinena is planted there under some local name and there are supposedly some fine wines made from it

cellino

it is very mountainous in the interior

that should be 'strait between corsica and sardinia'

and it is 6.8 miles wide apparently

there are also some islands there called the lavezzi islands apparently, just in case you were wondering where that thick-necked rioplatense wing-forward routinely deprecated by michael cox derives his doubtless legit italian passport and lineage

oh and i forgot about the sardinian restaurant in kentish town whose name escapes me that does the local speciality linguine alla botarga which is very nice and presumably even better in a good sardinian restaurant

Little Saint Hugh of Lincoln (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 14:11 (ten years ago)

as in restaurant in sardinia itself

now i'm struggling to think of anything else to do with sardinia that doesn't pertain to the cagliari football team

they've got a v striking flag of somewhat jumbled provenance

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/49/Bandera_nacionalista_sarda.svg/800px-Bandera_nacionalista_sarda.svg.png

also, w/ corsica, a tradition of polyphonic choral music w/ throaty tuvan-esque droning. I really like some of the v intense stuff recorded by a filetta but they're corsican

ogmor, Tuesday, 19 August 2014 15:01 (ten years ago)

maybe some reference or link to genoa?

Little Saint Hugh of Lincoln (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 22:18 (ten years ago)

seemingly not

Little Saint Hugh of Lincoln (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 22:20 (ten years ago)

some arabs or concerned fellow travellers are going to get upset eventually about that flag

Little Saint Hugh of Lincoln (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 22:20 (ten years ago)

that flag has already concerned, but more amused me

linguine alla botarga which is very nice and presumably even better in a good sardinian restaurant

ordered this on the first night, not knowing of its status as delicacy. can confirm that it is exquisite (as I did on dayo's concurrent pasta thread)

I think Berlusconi's lair may well be proximal to the peninsular house & grounds wherein I ply my trade

oh, as my plane came into olbia airport the following absolutely astonishing lump of rock leered up at us

jealous of those views. any chance you'll hear some of this fine sardinian music, performed for tourists or otherwise?

ogmor, Friday, 22 August 2014 15:16 (ten years ago)

oh like a sort of displaced fado culture? this town is peninsular & almost cultureless, entirely consumerist. what music there is will cater for foreign tastes. my chances are limited.

the island of Sardinia changed is name from Ichnusa to Sardinia in honor of Sardus

but no matter - the ubiquitous beer here is called Ichnusa

just remembered my friend knew a poet who claimed to have lived in a cave in sardinia for several months. you might want to look into that

nevermind if you don't hear owt, but this kershaw special is quite good http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p005y0zf

there was a leftwing independence terrorist group in the 70s about which there seems to be almost no information in english

theres something terribly sad about forgotten terrorism, if you can abstract it from the harm it caused

haha yes - so much energy for what legacy

I've just been completely fucking owned by a prickly pear :((( an hour's enforced manicure and there are still tens of microscopic hairs lodged in my fingers
