after the uk leaves the sclerotic confines of the european union and the council of europe, how much of the ensuing 30-40% growth in gdp should be devoted to executions?
― nakhchivan, Tuesday, 21 June 2016 21:24 (nine years ago)
Essex MP Priti Patel, whom it is customary to describe as a "rising star" of the Tory party, made her first appearance on BBC's Question Time this week, and set off a Twitter storm.
Just hours after the execution of Troy Davis, in Georgia, she issued a call to bring back hanging.
If we take her words literally, she would see others, as well as murderers, swinging from a rope. She mentioned rapists three times, and paedophiles once.

did we discuss this
Thinking back to when my sister made cakes professionally and I went with her to a cake fair and they had a decorating competition and one of the themes was 1916 and someone made James Connolly strapped to the chair being shot. Out of cake and icing.— lullie (@lulliesuss) March 12, 2022

What if you ate the British soldiers though, could icing Connolly escape?
― mardheamac (gyac), Sunday, 27 March 2022 13:55 (three years ago)
my first instinct was to bite the heads off the soldiers obv, but i like cake more than icing. pacifist option = just eat the rifles

This is a sticking point in downton abbey. It is the moment their communist cab driver becomes disillusioned with lenin.

why's it always the driver. the car as a symbol of modernity interfering with the old noblesse?

dear darragh,
how to pronounce "fionnuala" / is there an easy way to remember the pronunciation?
regards, 龜 (pronounced "龜")
― 龜, Monday, 27 January 2025 15:10 (six months ago)
I'll let darraghmac answer but I work with a woman called Fionnuala and about 1 in 4 of her colleagues pronounce her name correctly.
― Please play Lou Reed's irritating guitar sounds (Tom D.), Monday, 27 January 2025 15:21 (six months ago)
finooala, in a flow without a huge amount of stress on any of it, maybe a touch on the fin would be fine
theres a touch of 'w' between the oo- and the -a and im sure theres regional or personal variations as to how silent or otherwise the 'io' in the first syllable is
i dont know any technical terms around language boss im sorry, but i speak to people all the time i promise
― tuah dé danann (darraghmac), Monday, 27 January 2025 16:13 (six months ago)
I know how to say the name and I’m lost as to where the W is? I don’t hear one when I say ithttps://voca.ro/1oPzcXLGYoNn

"a touch of" didn't i fucking say, didnt i fucking leave it out of the first fucking effort didnt i?
i didnt want to presume that incorporating some of the subtleties was beyond anyone reading, regardless of these evidently being wasted on some of our flatter accented natives
