Can someone explain to me how the hell hird didnt get cited for the clear forearm to the head of thompson.

Is it a matter of who you are that determines whether you are reported or not??

How could nick stevens get 2 games for a love tap in the stomach and hird raises the elbow makes clear contact with the jaw of thompson, knocks him off his feet and isnt even booked.

Absolutely disgraceful. I feel sorry for mckernan and chris grant if only they were hird

Not putting Hird up was a responsible decision made in the interests of good public order.

With Lloyd already gone bang to rights, and the Hamill incident obviously being looked at very pro-actively indeed, if Hird had been hauled before the beak as well it may have caused riots in Mount Alexander Road.

Just seen the Hird-Thompson incident. Hird was stationary, Thompson was coming full tilt and intent on putting him into Spencer Street. The ball was dead, had been for about a minute, and Thompson should have been minding his own bloody business. Hird was entitled to protect himself.

eleven years pass...

There’s no doubt there has been a shift. The travel flow we are seeing to Syria is to a significant degree an extension of the “inner-city” gang phenomenon. Young Muslim men with a history of social and criminal delinquency are joining up with the Islamic State as part of a sort of “super-gang.”

Previously we were mostly dealing with “radical Islamists”—individuals radicalized toward violence by an extremist interpretation of Islam—but now we’re increasingly dealing with what are best described as “Islamized radicals.” The young Muslims from “inner-city” areas of Belgium, France, and other European countries joining up with the Islamic State were radical before they were religious. Their revolt from society manifested itself through petty crime and delinquency. Many are essentially part of street gangs. What the Islamic State brought in its wake was a new strain of Islam which legitimized their radical approach.
