Dumb is never a word I'd use to describe James Hird. And one of his saving graces over the years (besides his quality as a player) has been that he is in no way Sheedy's mouthpiece or anybody else's and never has been. Obviously Hird believes his own words, but just as obviously (and this is what would have me pounding desks demanding answers if I was an Essendon supporter) it wasn't wholly his idea and wasn't a spur of the moment action.
