After the 4th quarter debacle, here is my honest assessment of where the pies are at.

Star - Buckley - without you the Pies are nothing...
Should be Stars that go missing too often - Rocca, Tarrant, Fraser, Woey, Ryan Lonie
At least having a crack - Presti, Wakelin, Clement, Burns, Johnson, Cole, Licuria, McGough for the last couple of weeks
Too One Dimensional - O'Bree, Lokan, Cloke (3rd man in, can't catch a footy)
Soft Showman who are overrated - Leon Davis - king of the soft goal, Alan Didak (PUT YOUR HEAD OVER THE BALL YOU F*****G P***Y), Brodie Holland (try playing the ball, not the man)
Absolute Hacks - R Shaw, Ben Kinnear

There are a heap of kids finally getting a go - I thought Guy Richards and Dane Swan were handy, but D King and T Walker have a bit of development to go...

From here, what to do? Tank the season for priority picks? Hmmmm...

Lonie?? a star, benno got him in the wrong line, next to l davis is better

no good getting priority picks if u use them to get a new shaw or cloke

I'd put Lonie and Didak in the same category, both have skill to burn, both great kicks, both tall enough but nowhere near hard enough to play in a key position. Both can still make it but they'll have to toughen up.

The real worry for Collingwood is that it's OK being beaten by a decent team, even if they never break out of a canter, like Port or Essendon. But Saturday they lost to a mediocre (I follow 'em, OK, I'm allowed to be nice!) side playing well below even their best. They won't finish last but they'll be outside the top 10.

Surely Saturday's Keystone Cops effort blew away what little was left of all the hot air and bulldust surrounding Carlton v Collingwood.

Lonie could be anything off a HBFlank, not quite key position but I reckon he's harder than Didak and that has to count for something...

Fred, you got my worries summed up - we were beaten by a team that played terribly for 3 quarters, looked good for 5 minutes, and the Pies heads dropped to lose the game.

When the kid (name escapes me) kicked 3 in 5 minutes, you would think the Pies would slow teh play down, and use the ball. instead they panicked over everything and were shot ducks...

As a reward for cleaning the mud off his stops using Scott Camporeale's head as a doormat, Brodie Holland now has four weeks to work on his golf handicap.

Serve the sly little shit right.

At 3/4 time Mark Maclure said on ABC radio that it was 14th playing 16th, and it looked like it.

Usually it is Geelong playing when I hear comments like the one Chrisso mentioned above. The first half of the Pies Blues match wasn't exactly an advertisment for our code.

It's all been said.

What can I add?

Westener (Westener), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Come on Fred, it was Campo - the pair of them are up there in the best scraggers in the league. Give 'em a set of gloves each - it would have been more entertaining than the Mundine fight...

Bennö (Bennö), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Holland deserved his 4 weeks for what was a gutless act. I hear he is appealing. He should be grateful it wasn't longer. Does the appeal board have the power to lengthen a suspension? Wouldn't that be funny.

chrisso (chrisso), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Nothing is more entertaining than watching Mundine run away from someone who can actually box. No wonder he won't fight Danny Green.

dead set lucky in my opinion, should have got 4 weeks for his cowardly attack on williams last year and 8 for this one. He may well be the new libba, without libba's ability and im not sure libba has been guilty of a car hand shandy

jsa, Wednesday, 12 May 2004 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

8 weeks is a bit tough for being an annoying little smartarse, but maybe 100 weeks wouldn't reform him nearly as good as one hard smack in the cakehole. For all his niggling and cheap shots, he doesn't seem anywhere near as impressive when the opposition's actually looking at him.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Holland would be an ideal next date for Anthony 'Lie back and look at the arc lights' Mundine.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Geez, even when Fremantle were reaaly bad they had the presence of mind to flog Holland off to Collingwood.

Westener (Westener), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Fred, well said. Someone should land a right hook on him. Say Barry Hall, in the car park, after the game...

"car hand shandy" - delicately put Jase...
