Is this the tip of the wedge....

or even the thin end of the iceberg?

Midweek there was a lot of speculation about the TAC putting their sponsorships of Richmond and Collingwood into Vertical File 13 following the Cameron Cloke fiasco.

Question: What would happen if some other club sponsor, some organisation with a message to publicise which was slightly less universally supported than promoting community safety through better driving habits, was to try and 'heavy' a club into doing what it was told?

Like Quit and Carlton all those years back?

Sponsors drop out and are replaced on a regular basis - if TAC were to pull the sponsorship, the spin doctors would ensure the public knew it was due to a "change in marketing direction", and not directly related to the incidents.

As for the sponsorship, should State Government agencies be sponsoring football clubs in the first place???

Quit never sponsored Carlton. Mainly because our deeply esteemed and sorely lamented old Akela wouldn't have a bar of them.

I have vague memories of reading about CUB sponsoring the Vic cricket team in the mid 90s, and threatening to get all self-righteous on us when Berry and Jones and co (this must have been back when they were still talking to each other) made a public statement about the players not drinking during the season.

CUB must have pulled their heads in that time, but now 10 years later in the same circumstances a sponsor might feel a bit more confident sticking their oar in further.

If you click the link you'll see they've raised the money they need, so it should soon disappear.

The head honchos of ILX were fund-raising for a new piece of hardware for the site. I've never seen anything like it on here before. That list of 'contributors' is full of people who use the place a hell of a lot more than any of us.

No worries Fred. There are some sick fuggers on here that's for sure....bloody Americans. They scare the shit out of me more than any Muslim...

I've always been too uneasy to explore the rest of this site.
Any recommended I loves?

If you like underground music from bands no one's ever heard of populated by people with absolutely no sense of humour who take themselves more seriously than Judge Judy, I recommend 'I love music'.

I posted a thread about what they called 'hair metal' and I got it wrong and boy did they let me know about it...buyer beware folks.

The main ILX has its moments, it covers everything under the sun. I Love Music seems to be for real experts (x-post).

But you don't need to go to ILM to talk music. There's good music threads on ILE and you always have the option of starting your own topic.
