Fremantle v Collingwood - Freo Collingwood think you catch planes when going on holidays

St Kilda v Adelaide - Adelaide - Don't know if St Kilda are much good outside yet and it's going to be cold
Essendon v Carlton - Essendon
Sydney v Kangaroos - Sydney they are at home and on a high
W Bulldogs v Hawthorn - Hawthorn - slowly working their way up

Bris Lions v West Coast - Brisbane last weeks loss should fire them up
Richmond v Geelong - Geelong REB's boys to give Richo a hiding
Port Adelaide v Melbourne - Port Adelaide - with no conviction.

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Thursday, 5 August 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Fremantle v Collingwood - Freo cause it's at home.
St Kilda v Adelaide - Saints by plenty.
Essendon v Carlton - Essendon easily. Dennis can send Kev a post card during his September holiday, he can address it c/o the MCG.
Sydney v Kangaroos - Kanga's to throw a spanner in the works
W Bulldogs v Hawthorn - Nil-all draw.
Bris Lions v West Coast - Brisbane easily, West Coast can't play away from the West and they are masively overated as a football side.
Richmond v Geelong - Geelong, probably
Port Adelaide v Melbourne - Dee's by a point.

chrisso (chrisso), Thursday, 5 August 2004 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

FREO - one goal wins over Richmond are not good form. Freo too even and too tall

ST KILDA - the MOTM amassed 48 points two weeks ago and 49 last week. 50 is about OTM for tomorrow but the ex-mullet and Bottle Boy may score that many each

ESS - it would take a Sheedy to lose this one

SYD - toss the coin

HAW - playing for the Cactus Cup

GEEL - of course

PORT - because they have to

BRIS - see Port

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Thursday, 5 August 2004 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Freo - Collingwood to get lost at the airport

St Kilda - Adelaide can't score enough goals to cover Riewoldt and G Train.

Essendon - Carlton are gone.

Sydney - Roos record against the Swannies is awful.

Hawks - I reckon it was a case of Hawthorn finding something rather than any Demon let down last week. Vandenburg's return a key.

West Coast - Charman out for the year. Cox will do well on McLaren. Lynch out, Brown out. West Coast to stay alive for another week.

Geelong - Geelong's success is built around the same quality that has been lacking in Richmond of late, hard work. Last time they had Ottens and we didn't have King, this time it's the other way around. Richo's back but Stafford is out.

Melbourne - Are a bit of a bogey side for Port. Wanganeen will be underdone and they'll miss Choppy and Carr. Now Port have to cope without Brogan as well, this'll mean Lade will probably have to take the ruck leaving Tredrea to play a lone hand up forward. Melbourne look more settled.

REB

Fremantle v Collingwood - Freo - Collingwoods blooding of youngsters will see them copetitive until 3/4 time.

St Kilda v Adelaide - Saints by plenty. Adelaide are a joke
Essendon v Carlton - Essendon by enough, Carlton can't wait for the season to end.
Sydney v Kangaroos - Sydney at home, Roos lost direction.
W Bulldogs v Hawthorn - Bulldogs in the MockBuster...
Bris Lions v West Coast - Brisbane - Mike Sheahan is an idiot. Lions by plenty...
Richmond v Geelong - Geelong Hoping for more results to sneak into the 4.
Port Adelaide v Melbourne - Port Adelaide - D's are confused when looking at the ladder and not seeing the themselves in mid table mediocrity...

Bennö (Bennö), Friday, 6 August 2004 03:22 (twenty-one years ago)

"Port Adelaide - with no conviction"

Hawka (hawka), Friday, 6 August 2004 06:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Bloody Carlton. Too good in the wet today, this will make it hard for us to make the finals now. Still believe we will though.

chrisso (chrisso), Saturday, 7 August 2004 07:15 (twenty-one years ago)

What's that song - Three out of Eight ain't bad. DOh!

And before you start Westener, yes West Coast played extremely well, and yes West Coast deserved the win etc etc.

Roll on Hawthorn, and welcome back Jonathan Brown and hopefully Lynch and hopefully the Scott brothers.

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Sunday, 8 August 2004 06:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Bris Lions v West Coast - Brisbane easily, West Coast can't play away from the West and they are masively overated as a football side.

And Essendon are not, crisso?

LL, don't be sad, not beating us ain't bad.

Westener (Westener), Sunday, 8 August 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

No Westy, actually they aren't, the only folk over-rating Essendon these days are Essendon.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Sunday, 8 August 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm quite happy Westener, last time you flogged us by over 60 points. So we are getting better.

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Sunday, 8 August 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

No Westy, actually they aren't, the only folk over-rating Essendon these days are Essendon.

When you've played in the finals every year since 97 and have only missed the finals 5 times in 24 years it's hard not to rate yourself. Why wouldn't you rate yourself? I think the fact we don't trawel the depths of the bottom of the ladder and pick up the prime draft picks counts against us. Melbourne, Geelong, St Kilda are now enjoying the fruits of being shithouse. It's a pity Carlton won't get the same benefits of being so useless the last couple of years. Eh, Fred.

chrisso (chrisso), Sunday, 8 August 2004 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Mid range draft picks: Instead of the best or second best kid in the country you get the 7th or 8th best. Aw diddums. On Saturday the kid that played on Lloyd played about his 30th game in three years, his second for the season, and his best by a huge margin. He was pick 4 in 2001. Brad Fisher has played nearly that many in two years and was already a regular when he did his knee last week. He was literally the last name out in 2002 before Mick Martyn. And what pick was James Hird again? The draft may be more 'scientific' now than then, but it's still a glorified Keno game.

Just keep trotting out the lame excuses. Hope for your sake Sheedy and co aren't doing the same. Because Essendon in 2004 have exactly the same stink about them as Carlton in 2001: stale, complacent, aging core of stars, high as a kite on bluster and bullshit. Occasionally they pull a Port performance out of their bum, usually just in time to frighten the last of the critics off.

Read Connolly's article yesterday, and remember he's one of yours.

Since 2001 the 'greatest ever' Essendoomed side has a 50% record against the worst ever Carlton team. Complacent? Never!!! Something to stew on for the next five years: In three of the last four decades, the team that won the flag in the 0 year won the spoon in the 9 year. Or maybe you won't have to wait quite that long.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Sunday, 8 August 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Last? Essendon? Thanks for the laughs Freddo!!! Look at our record, sport, we are a September institution. We never go the bottom of the table and even when we are re-building we play finals. You've been a keen follower of Sheedy and you should know that he always finds a way to get us up. C'mon Freddo, don't write off a champion. You should know better.

In three of the last four decades, the team that won the flag in the 0 year won the spoon in the 9 year

Was it you who was talking about Keno?

chrisso (chrisso), Sunday, 8 August 2004 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

"Last? Essendon? Thanks for the laughs Freddo!!! Look at our record, sport, we are a September institution."

The similarities with Carlton circa 2001 continue.

Anyway finishing last wasn't exactly the end of the world for Collingwood and it doesn't look like that for Carlton either, draft picks or no. It would be character-building, and would wake up those that need it.

Re Sheedy: either he really is God after all, or he has a use-by date.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Sunday, 8 August 2004 23:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Cheap parting shot: If Essendon are an institution, which one is Sheedy? Nurse Ratchet or Randal P. McMurphy?

Gotta work. Hoo-roo.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Sunday, 8 August 2004 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

"Melbourne, Geelong, St Kilda are now enjoying the fruits of being shithouse"...when was the last time the Cats finished in the bottom four Susso?

The sour grapes coming from some folk out at Whiney hill will make for a bitter Essendon vintage of 2004.

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Monday, 9 August 2004 00:02 (twenty-one years ago)

"...when was the last time the Cats finished in the bottom four Susso?

When was the last time the Cats won a flag? Sour grapes?Lol. We have nothing to be sour about, champ. We have played in the finals every year since 97. If I was sour about that then I would be pretty ungrateful, I'm very happy with our wonderful record. Even with us playing our worst season for many years we will still make the 8.
Wouldn't the Cats love a record like that.

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 9 August 2004 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

"When was the last time the Cats won a flag?"

Jeez, you Essendon supporters don't know much about football. There are 15 other teams in the comp you know :)

REB
