'Upset' victories

Memo to whoever holds the record for the number of officially designated 'Upsets' in a season: Carlton 2004 are putting out a very strong challenge and may even already have their name in the book.

If you are looking at that sort of thing retrospectively, I wonder in hindsight what would constitute an 'upset' victory? Seeing as you'd have to have the ladder of the time to work with, it would be a hell of a lot easier to award the title to Carlton 2004!

Fred, I use the simple rule if you beat the team above you it is an upset (this obviously isn't too good early in the year). This has occurred 55 times this year with the Doggies pulling off the biggest upset against the Lions.

List of 2004 "Upsets". Carlton's four upsets this year doesn't seem that much with the only one of note being against Essendon (but apart from the their game against Port, they haven't been too good this year either ... says me whose team is on the bottom :))

There would have to be a team that has caused more than four upsets in a year. I'll get one of the kids to check it out.
