Craig a Crow

Neil Craig's been named as Adelaide Crow's Coach.

Where does this leave, Ayres, Eade and McDonald? Who will Hawthorn, Western Bulldogs go for? Will Mark Harvey and Gary O'Donnell get a look in or are they destined to say assistants for another season. Personally I think O'Donnell should stay a Lion until Lethal Retires. He could be our caretaker coach until Voss retires gets some experience then comes back to Coach along with Ashcroft. Dreams Dreams - wonderful things!

Wasn't 'Craig the Crow' on Shirl's Neighbourhood?

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Thursday, 12 August 2004 00:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Eade will coach the Dogs.

Did anyone watch Talking Footy the other night? Dermott Brereton said on radio, while being filmed, and said that he would look the announcer in the eye and tell him that Terry Wallace was not their #1 choice as coach. Half-way through the sentence he looked down at the table and you just knew he was lying, he couldn't look the bloke in the eye. Laugh? I nearly cried. What a joke. You almost feel sorry for Hawthorn supporters. Almost.

I find nothing too hard to believe in Wallace's assertion that the spectre of Difficult Don Scott made his mind up for him. But why didn't Dermie use it to take a swipe back, along the lines of 'Now look what you've done Scott, why can't you mind your own bloody business?'

O'Donnell - Simon will stay with the Gorillas...for now. But following in Lethal's footsteps would be one hell of a job.

Ayres - To the Bulldogs..the best bet for that experienced core who may have just got away with coasting under Rohde. Ayres doesn't have a great reputation as a 'nuturing' coach, and may not be the best bet for the Hawks.

Eade - To Hawthorn. May be too pricey for the Dogs. Who else remembers how Eade lost his patience and didn't play the kids when he was in charge of the Swannies? A bit overrated in my book. It was Barassi who did the hard yards with that Swannie squad which was cherry ripe to perform in 1996.

Harvey - LOL. He'll hang about at Essendon until Sheedy turns 100...and re-signs again ha ha. Could turn to be the next Brian Royal.

McDonald - to join the Doobie Brothers or open up a multi million dollar junk food franchaise. No chance to drive Dicker's club or Jag.

What about Libba? Is he a chance for the Dogs. What about Mick Maguane (shocking spelling)? Does he have anything to offer an AFL club? And what chance Shaun Rehn lobbing at Crowland?

A lot more questions than answers it seems.

REB

Chrisso, I saw Talking Footy (last night after recording as it's only on up here at 1230am Wendesday morning - passed my bedtime!)

I too thought it typically Brereton to say I can look you in the eye and say... and then turn away. He's a joke these days may have been a great footballer but for me there it ends.

REB Mick McGuane (?) love his commentary but know nothing about his coaching record.

Agree I think Ayres would be good at Western Bulldogs.

Eade I think should be coaching the Sydney Kings - reminds me more of an American Basketball Coach then an Aussie Rules coach.

Lol, I do the same. At least we can fast-forward the commercials.:-)

Someone really should take a punt on Garry O'Donnell, he has worked closely with two of the best coaches ever and is a very, very smart man.

P.s Lucy wins the spelling bee.

chrisso (chrisso), Thursday, 12 August 2004 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently Matthews was Hawthorn's first choice.

He gave them that two-letter word starting with N and ending with O, that date rapists, Optus salesmen and other lesser pests find so hard to understand, three weeks ago and one week ago, apparently for about the 4683rd and 4684th times respectively since Lethal left Collingwood. Matthews was never any more likely to coach Hawthorn than Jock McHale.

Bite the bullet fellas, tell your ego to get stuffed, you're not going to get a Big Name so you may as well try a (shudder) Untried Coach. Give the job to Donald McDonald (try not to let the name put you off) or at least talk to Mark Harvey. After all, Barassi was once an untried coach.

Re McGuane: The first time Ignoramus Rex tried to pronounce the name he made it sound like Mick was Ronnie McKeown's brother.

P.s Lucy wins the spelling bee.

I would just like to acknowledge this award, which gives me so much pleasure and I would temper this by saying if it was not for the likes of "Chrisso", "FredN", "Rik E Boy", "Benno" "Westener" and no doubt others I have neglected to mention I would have nothing to compare myself to.

Thank you, thank you and once again thank you!

These things happen when you have a public holiday - I come back to work and have to be retrained! Or is that restrained, or refrained? Oh who cares I know what I'm talking about and surely that's all that matters! Forums are a bit like talking to yourself arn't they?

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Thursday, 12 August 2004 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

And meanwhile, back at the thread....
I find nothing too hard to believe in Wallace's assertion that the spectre of Difficult Don Scott made his mind up for him.

If Wallace really wanted the Hawks, he could have employed Basil Campbell as an assistant. Scott would have run(for the 2nd time)

Westener (Westener), Thursday, 12 August 2004 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah yes, good old Bazza.

How's his little turd of a son going, the one that lasted a season and a half at North as designated sniper?

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Thursday, 12 August 2004 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't have a clue, Fred. Probably drunk himself to death in Darwin

Westener (Westener), Thursday, 12 August 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Chrisso, if you think I'm bad...
