Well worth the read about the mistake of long, back ended contracts...

A big mistake that Essendon won't make again. I hope it doesn't get ugly, but he hasn't said anything yet and that bothers me. He was dropped tonight so it will be interesting to see what unfolds this week.

Didn't M Voss sign a five year deal last year?

The AFL career of Essendon veteran Mark Mercuri seems over if he likes it or not, with Bomber coach Kevin Sheedy dropping "it's time" hints during his press conference at Essendon's Wednesday afternoon training session.

"Mark's form isn't and hasn't been that good this year. He's got to sit down and say to himself and his advisers, 'Is it worthwhile going on any more?' That's up to Mark, really." Sheedy said. "You've got to know yourself whether you can play or whether you're capable of playing well. Nobody knows your body more than yourself."

"I've given him as many opportunities because I believe that I should, and when he's gone back (to the VFL) he's played very, very well in the VFL every time," Sheedy added. "So, whether it's a mental thing or whether it's a physical thing or whether he's just flattened himself over a long period of time, we're not quite sure."

Mercuri however is contracted till the end of 2005 and is said to be keen to play on.

I think Vossy signed a three year deal and then extended it this year. I believe he is contracted until the end 2007.
