This is a media release from Channel 10 in the lead up to a live Friday night game into all of Queensland, I think for the first time.
I sure it will be a given that live Friday footy into Queensland will be part of any new TV contract in two years you'd think 10 would be very keen to develop the market ahead of time, and have a record to show the AFL when talks begin.
AFL in Queensland rules
15 September 2004
Queensland viewers will have the chance to show their support for AFL this weekend with a non-Lions match to be broadcast LIVE in this state for the first time in AFL finals history.
Port Adelaide takes on St Kilda live from 7.30pm this Friday night.
In response to viewer demand, Network Ten has openly challenged the public of Queensland to show how much they want non-Lions finals. The ratings results of this match will be taken into consideration for future programming decisions.
Riding the tail of the local AFL frenzy, locally produced programme ‘Queensland Rules’ will also take centre stage in prime time on Saturday night going head-to-head with the NRL semi-final.
Televised at 6.30pm leading into the LIVE Brisbane Lions v Geelong game at 7.00pm, this is the first time ‘Queensland Rules’ will be seen in prime time.
The move by Network Ten to show live finals games and ‘Queensland Rules’ in prime time demonstrates the unprecedented growth the sport has experienced in the Sunshine State.
It is now up to Queensland fans to tune in to the preliminary finals and not forfeit the chance to see more live matches on free-to-air TV.

In many ways it is chrisso, use it or loose it.

Shouldn't that be 'uuse it of loose it'? Otherwise you're spot on. If they don't show sufficient gratitude to Rupes for making the supreme sacrifice and give him a 40 rating, they can all go jump in the lake next week.

To be fair, good on Ch10 in Brissie for at least giving it a go, you would never get a look in if Ch9 had the finals rights.

It's about time too. Friday will be good to sit and watch footy when I'm still awake! As for Saturday at least they are showing it on the big screen at the Gabba (just in case we win we can then queue for tickets) Thanks to the Gabba, the Lions and Channel 10 , now we just have to get Geelong to do their bit and lose!! :)
