Who do you think will get it?

Bradley keen on Blues post
By Jake Niall December 8, 2003

Craig Bradley is a candidate for a job at Carlton.

Carlton's games record holder and former captain Craig Bradley is a candidate for the assistant coaching position at Optus Oval.

Bradley is to be interviewed this week for the position, which has attracted a highly decorated set of applicants, including Brisbane's triple premiership player Marcus Ashcroft, who has just retired, 1990 Brownlow medallist Tony Liberatore and ex-Essendon premiership captain Terry Daniher.

Ashcroft is considered the front-runner for the job, with interviews to be completed this week and an announcement possible by the weekend. The new assistant coach will replace Ross Lyon, who has shifted to Sydney to act as assistant to his close friend Paul Roos.

Surely Carlton go for Bradley - history, tradition, service to the club, sends message about united club not affaid of recent past, led by example when playing - probably a hero to some of their new kids.

Big Bird (Big Bird), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Whereas Ashcroft would be a fresh face around the place and knows what is needed to win a flag these days. Also, when he started playing, Brisbane were as bollocks as Carlton are now and he was with them all the way up.

Bradley's relations with Carlton are still a bit clouded and he might be better off going somewhere else for a couple of years. He will be back someday, but I wonder if now is quite the right time.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Marcus could do a "John Worsfold", get some coaching experience under a reputable coach then when Leigh retires he could come back to Brisbane. Certainly doesn't seem to have been a bad step for Worsfold.

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure that's exactly what MA has in mind. Worsfold did a great job in his couple of years at Carlton and if they'd given him the top job I wouldn't have complained.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 02:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Fred what's wrong with Bradley relationship with Carlton?

Big Bird (Big Bird), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 03:05 (twenty-one years ago)

There's still a few people at Carlton looking sideways at him for 'shopping' Elliott over the under-the-table payments to him and Silvagni. Nobody whose views are worth listening to, far less considering. It's minor-league but it's there.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 03:11 (twenty-one years ago)

will be interesting as the difference is worsfold was a leader of men, not sure ashcroft commands the same respect or fear as worsfold did

jsa, Tuesday, 9 December 2003 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Ashcroft? He looks like a grandpa. The kiddies would laugh at him. And Lawrie might roll him in the car park...

Bennö (Bennö), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Poor LA, your a hard man Benno - what ever happened to forgive and forget.

Respect for Ashcroft at Carlton might come from being involved in going from the bottom to the top.

Big Bird (Big Bird), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 01:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks BB but after a few weeks you'll realise that when Benno gets going on Carlton, the best thing to treat it with is total ignore.

I'm happy to see LA stay at Carlton (he's not the first thief to play pro sport, and it seems every club has its share of pub brawlers and general dickheads), but I hope like hell they gave Karl Norman (whose house he cleaned out) some say in the matter.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Could be worse Fred, he could play RL for "Australia" !!!!!

Big Bird (Big Bird), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 01:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Forgive and forget?

I'll never forgive, nor forget, the bucketing every filthy Carlton supporter gave me in 1999, with the Pies picking up a Spoon, and the Scum making the GF.

I'll also never forget 2002, with the Pies reversing the situation...

Remember Dentons song years ago - as long as we beat New Zealand? A good Magpie fan sing the same tune, swapping NZ for the scumbags of Caaarlton.

btw, FN is one of the more reasonable Carlton supporters I have met. he can spell and make sentances for a start!

Bennö (Bennö), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 03:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll never forget President Jack sacking Robert Walls as coach after a lost to Brisbane in Melbourne in the pouring rain. He said he and committee "can't accept the situation where Carlton looses to a side like Brisbane".

Benno's got a point there Fred, you do seem to nice a bloke to barrack for Carlton !! Bit like my sister-in-law, she's a nice person too.

Is Lucy Lion our version of Joffa ?

Big Bird (Big Bird), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 04:04 (twenty-one years ago)

"Is Lucy Lion our version of Joffa ? "

God Big Bird how offensive is that. I'm not a dickhead wearing a gold lame jacket for a start. AND I am willing to accept our Lions can be beaten by a better side - just hard pushed to find one!!!

LOL

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 05:54 (twenty-one years ago)

well u dont wear a gold jacket anyway

jsa, Wednesday, 10 December 2003 06:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Just comparing your passion Lucy.

I'm sure you've got better dress sense. May you could do the same as Joffa but with a little more taste and refinement. Position yourself behind the goals at the Ipswich Road end and put on a LBD when you think the game is over

Big Bird (Big Bird), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 06:24 (twenty-one years ago)

"...end and put on a LBD when you think the game is over"

Big Bird I think that would be classed as indecent exposure, I wouldn't want to put the boys off their game - it's not easy kicking goals when your laughing!!!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 07:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Interesting that someone brought up the Brisbane game when Walls got sacked after Capper kicked the goal after the siren.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that that was Marcus Ashcroft's first game.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 09:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Lucy has better dress sense than Joffa.

So does Dannnniiiii Minogue.

And Pauline Hanson.

Likewise Ron Barassi on GF day 77, Bob Hawke the day we won the America's Cup, Al Grassby, Don Dunstan, Slade and Rod Stewart.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

"Lucy has better dress sense than Joffa."

Yes I do, today I'm wearing Premiership Flag 2001, tomorrow it will be Premiership Flag 2002 and on Sunday Premiership Flag 2003!

I won't ask what you are going to do with the wooden spoon once Monday rolls around LOL.

REB

Trouble is I refuse to come back down to earth until at least Round 1 of the H&A season. Got to enjoy it while we can.

As for the attire Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - well there's the Norm Smith Medal for 2001 and the Norm Smith Medal for 2003 the Brownlow Medal 2001, Brownlow Medal 2002, MVP Award 2002, and 2003.......

I guess I'll be well covered!! LOL
