Now that Power have Josh Mahoney, they may as well hand Choco the cup now.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

now fred i wouldnt think a carlton man would have too mauch to say about drafting players, ummm how bout mick martyn, corey mckernan etc etc and about 1/2 doz rejects youve picked up this year, i mean we laughed when offered heath scotland but not the bluebaggers they jumped for joy.

Hey Mr Defensive, you're turning into Port's version of Larrikin. Josh M was probably the best player available. The comment was not about Port but about the futility of the exercise overall.

Scotland's exactly the kind of midfielder your old mate Osama bin Stevens (supposedly) isn't. If you hadn't been laughing quite so loud. you might have got more than diddly-squat back for him. So we have Port to thank for getting both of them for next to sod all.

Dragacevich (pick 20) must have just sneaked under the age limit. Notice WC nabbed Andy Embley's kid brother. Ben Clifton (Haw) is the son of radio racing commentator Terry Clifton. Be interesting to see if Josh Thurgood (Haw) is a descendant of the Essendon legend from the very early days, Albert.

Melbourne drafted Paul Newman. Oh well, at least with that name they'll have one bloke who can act like a footballer CONVINCINGLY.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 02:15 (twenty-one years ago)

well fred i forgot your the comedian of the forum, matches your club. Now wonder they are crap if you rate heath scotland

jsa, Tuesday, 16 December 2003 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

If Scotland and Stevens play a quarter of football between them and then do a Waugh and Gillespie and neither of them ever play again, Carlton will still have got more out of that shemozzle than Port. Speaking of comedians John Cleese and Spike Milligan couldn't have come up with a better farce than Port's dealings over Stevens.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 02:27 (twenty-one years ago)

even taking into account your obvious limited knowledge on finances, if you reckon u got a bargain in paying 500K per year for 4 years for n stevens then so be it, might explain why your club has no draft picks.

Bottom line is nick stevens got screwed, he wanted collingwood, they decided he's not worth 500K, so they offered rubbish, the same rubbish that carlton pounced upon. you copped an outside player whose heart is with the arch enemy for 2 mill. So if your happy for him to compete 1 quarter and think you got more than port, then id suggest your join john elliott as his asset manager.

jsa, Tuesday, 16 December 2003 02:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Dragicevic a Rookie? The bloke seems like he has been around for years. How the hell does that work???

Bennö (Bennö), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 02:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I've seen Furfaro, Drummond, Pratt and Pardew play and they certainly hold a lot of promise. Don't remember having seen Stiller.

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 02:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I know stuff all about finances but unless you're Port's accountant so do you, so whatever fancy impressive-looking numbers you throw out from the Port fanzines don't matter one iota.

Port tried to act tough and forgot they weren't dealing with Sturt and Centrals any more. Port can pat themselves on the back for screwing Stevens all they like but they screwed themselves good and proper at the same time.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 02:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Surprised Betheras didn't get picked up - he's not a bad player!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 02:55 (twenty-one years ago)

well please explain fred how and why we got screwed??

we lost a player we were overly concerned at losing and a player that wanted to leave, weve freed up salary cap, sure we got nothing in return, but nothing sometimes is better than the crap offered.

facts and figures (he was on 350 at the power and ive yet to see a player leave for less than what he was getting, at least not in the modern era) would suggest fred, that he was after 500K per year and seeing as he was quite willing to cross to carlton that he might have received what he wanted, thats how it works fred, you ask for something if its not given then you try somewhere else until you find the inept poorly run club that is desperate to increase its playing stocks so it pays well over the market rate for something, that in the long run leads to unrest in the organisation because the bloke getting paid the big bucks is the game breaker that similiar players are who are on the same money.

Anyway you seem happy with what youve got, might be interesting to revisit the winners and loser of the n stevens affair at some point in the future, perhaps after a few of the home carlton games when you and your fellow supporters realise that he's not worth it

jsa, Tuesday, 16 December 2003 03:13 (twenty-one years ago)

the bloke getting paid the big bucks is the game breaker that similiar players are who are on the same money.

That should read "ISNT"

dragonlady (dragonlady), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 04:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Apart from Rawlings and Stevens, it seems likely to me that every club who participated in the pre-season draft will have at least one rookie they drafted today, who will play more senior football this season than the pre-season choice.
