A thread about lists...

I wasn't a happy Catter when Benny Graham hung up his hoops to play pretend football in the world's asylum but I feel a bit better after having a squiz at some of the lists during the half time break of the Boomering/Bullies game.

As far as I can summarise, the following teams look like they have lost a fair bit of experience...Port, Essendon, Brisbane (All top 8 last year) . Many clubs are clearly in rebuilding mode...Bulldogs, Richmond, Adelaide. I can think of a couple of clubs who have improved their list...Freo appear to have done well and Melbourne will get good service from Maloney and won't miss Jolly or Vardy all that much.

Then there are some real puzzlers. I'd like to know what Fred Nerk thinks of the Blues' decision to delist McCormick and Beasy who looked good at times and also the decision to delist the gutsy Hulme (is he injured Fred?).

Another strange one is St Kilda's decision to delist Trent Knobel and acquire the momentually mediocre Cain Ackland, who I have seen struggle at SANFL level. While Knobel is obviously no superstar, he runs rings around Ackland who just does not impress IMO. On top of this the Sainters let Heath Black go back to Anchorland and brought smiles to everyone's faces by getting the soft Fiora and the plodding McGough. I await the fall of the Sainters anxiously after spending far too much time on bagcatty.com (Bigfooty).

Meanwhile, Sydney has lived up to it's 'City of Dreams' tag by pumping up David Spriggs and Darren Jolly's arrival at the club. Good luck Roosy...you're gonna need it.

While a team is more than it's list (as any Cat fan should tell you) I reckon that Sydney and Essendon look vulnerable from last year's eight and that Fremantle and Collingwood could well be the sides to take their spot in the top half.

I reckon Bulldogs and Richmond will improve (well they have to don't they) and Carlton and the especially the Roos will go backwards. Recruiting ex-Hawthorn players while losing players like Anthony Stevens and David King is not a good look. I reckon Hawthorn will finish last and that Adelaide will have a similar season to last year.

REB

Hi folks (and folkesses), I've just moved house and haven't found my way back on line yet so these days I'm not around much.

Re McCormick and 'Callum Beasley' (at least you got it half right REB, his first name is CALLAN (as in title character, played with brilliantly understated menace by Anthony Valentine, in Brit prototype for classic 60s OzTV 'Hunter'): Beaz had been around since Carlton last played finals without ever getting fit or consistent and McCormick, well, he can always go back to his former job as Rod Stewart's slightly less ugly stunt double. Neither could find a regular place in crap Carlton teams so how are they going to get on now the competition's a bit more fierce?

By end 2004 Hulme had chronic hammies, back and relationship with the coach, in ascending order of relevance. But he was a brave and loyal clubman who worked hard at his game and always gave 110%, and he will be missed.

Half right Fred? I'm improving already on last year :)

Cheers,

Wasn't Callan played by Edward Woodward?

You're a bit late ojit. Fred already came up with that one on another thread....Callan LOL...how old are these fuggers?

Right of course: Tony Valentine played the Callan equivalent of Kragg in 'Hunter'.

I'm 47. I became aware of the 'idiot box' just in time for Hunter to be shot (the character that is) and I've only seen snatches of Callan in repeat (Hint to Mr Foxtel: How about a bit more classic Brit drama (and a lot less crap Brit 'comedy') on YukTV??? It might even be almost enough to convince me to reconnect).

Give me brit comedy anytime over the glorification of cock sucking celebrities that passes for entertainment on nearly every channel on Fox.

Must admit haven't seen the channel on Fox yet REB, but agree about Brit comedy/drama leaves the rest for dead. As for reconnecting Fred, well this 'digital deal' is soon not fantastic! Sports active is very overrated, is seems on the games covered by Channel 9 are included in the sports active bit. Because Channel 7 and Channel 10 are listings (as such) in Fox there games (10's that is) are not covered in sports active - oh except the GF. I believe they did that! Which means that I've never seen a Brisbane Lions games as Sports active because most are covered by 10 or Fox. In some ways this is a good thing because I hear less of Mr McGuire!

Coverage is also on a delay. Which means if you are listening through your stereo to commentary from say NIRS or your preferred radio commentary it's out of sink - very irritating!

The Office has to be one of the best sitcoms ever. If you haven't seen it, do take a look. You won't regret it.

chrisso (chrisso), Friday, 11 February 2005 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Everybody who has ever been employed for more than about a week will have encountered at least one David Brent. In my former half-life in Jeff's Public Service there was about one to the square metre.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Friday, 18 February 2005 02:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Which is why it's so funny, of course.

chrisso (chrisso), Friday, 18 February 2005 03:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Far far too many people that I work with are depicted in The Office. Somedays it's too real to be funny. But I agree Chrisso I do enjoy.

Only American stuff I vaguely enjoy are Becker and Frasier. The rest you can keep

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Friday, 18 February 2005 03:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Just Shoot me, get a bit sick of Becker's one dimensional personality though.

Why am I not surprised about that! It's probably one of the American tripe programs I hate most.

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Friday, 18 February 2005 05:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Just wait till the footy starts again. Then I'll turn our TV on. No yank crap on the footy.

Westener (Westener), Friday, 18 February 2005 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

LOL. The only thing we have in common is we like footy Chimp Chick :)
Brisbane Bears for the spoon...

I don't about that Westener, Eade still reminds me of a bad bad American Basketball coach.

Tell is the name Beau a WA thing? There's Beau McDonald ex Swans,
Beau Waters now with West Coast. I seem to remember Lionel Yorke naming his son Beau, and I knew a guy in Perth with a son called Beau. It's very sad and seems to be a repeating pattern.

However, Beau Waters played a good game and will no doubt be a valuable addition for the coasters.

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Saturday, 19 February 2005 06:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Whoops, that would be ex Swan Districts - not the Sydney variety!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Saturday, 19 February 2005 06:23 (twenty-one years ago)

He's a Croweater, LL. You should know that they have funny names there(like REB, for instance)

He's a good kid and seems to be showing a bit. I remember an early interview with him where he stated that his idol was John Worsfold. Strikes me that he plays a bit like Woosha - very hard at the ball and contest. We can only wish and hope!

Westener (Westener), Saturday, 19 February 2005 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Smart kid even with that name as a hindrance.
