jsa, Wednesday, 9 March 2005 01:23 (twenty years ago)

OK, I've created a comp.

Step 1: Go here: http://www.tipping.foxsports.news.com.au/
Our comp name is : I Love AFL (dont forget the spaces)
Our password is: nickstevens (one word)

Good luck. Should be fun, and if you're really good you could win 2 gorillas.

chrisso (chrisso), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 05:57 (twenty years ago)

Do we get to pick which gorillas! lol

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 09:00 (twenty years ago)

I've registered chrisso but I'll reserve my pick for awhile. Now that it's serious I better think hard about who to pick!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 09:11 (twenty years ago)

If Susso is in at least we won't be finishing last LMAO. Good work Bomber boy.

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Thursday, 10 March 2005 02:48 (twenty years ago)

In, and now get ready for me to clean up.

If I tip Eagles and Dockers each week, I should have a big headstart over youse.

Westener (Westener), Thursday, 10 March 2005 12:17 (twenty years ago)

Tipping two teams every week. Now's there's a forumula for success.

regards,

Rik.

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

Welcome aboard, Westy. Good luck!!

chrisso (chrisso), Thursday, 10 March 2005 22:51 (twenty years ago)

Do I get a leg up by tipping the Eagers over Fred's Fools tomorrow night?

Westener (Westener), Friday, 11 March 2005 10:10 (twenty years ago)

Westener I'm tipping the Eagles for a big win tonight. The Goblet of Fire will be yours!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Saturday, 12 March 2005 07:34 (twenty years ago)

I'm back from the honeymoon and in the tipping comp...

Now, there isn't a lot of AFL news in Enzud, but I saw in this mornings paper that the Bloos won a trophy? Does it have any value as scrap?

Bennö (Bennö), Sunday, 13 March 2005 00:45 (twenty years ago)

Congratulations Benno.

chrisso (chrisso), Sunday, 13 March 2005 09:34 (twenty years ago)

I selected the Eagles to win as well...the Egirls to win at Telstra!! What WAS I thinking?? Apparently they have the worst record of ALL clubs at the Domea55. Perhaps Westy's strategy may require a slight adjustment.

Well done to the Blues who never really looked like losing except for a brief period in the last when the Eagles hit the front. Both sides look like they are going to have a good season.

regards,

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Sunday, 13 March 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

Clearly the west coast havent shed there softness in big games. May have a gun midfield but a bunch of softies surround them.

jsa, Sunday, 13 March 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

How firm is the ground you're standing on jsa!

Congrats Benno you found someone silly enough to marry you! Welldone.

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Sunday, 13 March 2005 22:51 (twenty years ago)

Pretty firm Gorilla Girl. Name the big guns up front and down back.

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Monday, 14 March 2005 02:27 (twenty years ago)

Quinten Lynch doesn't do a bad job, and Andrew Embley is normally a reliable goal kicker. Glass does alright down back.

I was disappointed in the Eagles game (as you say REB, other than the short stance they made in the final quarter. Carlton were all over them.

I do think however, they will be 'genuine contenders' in the H&A season.

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Monday, 14 March 2005 02:49 (twenty years ago)

Quinton Lynch is a man mountain, gets himself in teh position to do anything and normally does nothing. Cant compete against the good sides without a good forward line and a hard backline, neither of which they have.

Glass did well!!! fevola had 5 by halftime and prolly should have had 7, his replacement was hunter, who the hell is he.

Agreed embley is a good player

Plus, Lucy one would have to suggest there past record in big games even with the gun midfield is pretty ordinary.

But then again a typical WA side, plenty of skill and not much heart,

jsa, Monday, 14 March 2005 05:37 (twenty years ago)

Glasshouses here, Jase. A Power fan calling out another team for softness in big games.

Just how many years have the Power been winning big finals on end. Is that 1, I hear.

I think that probably the Lions and Bombers are the masters of the big match, and to a lesser extent, Crows.

A PP fan is in no place to push that line.

Westener (Westener), Monday, 14 March 2005 12:38 (twenty years ago)

That monkey has now gone westerner, unfortunately your monkey is still there and has been for about 10 years, which is about the last time you won a finals match.

jsa, Monday, 14 March 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

I agree with the Portonian. While Lynch looks like he could do anything, he just isn't the one grab player the Eagles need and as for Glass...well, the less said the better.

Having said that though, I'm not looking forward to our trip West in Round 2. We are shite interstate.

regards,

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Monday, 14 March 2005 21:59 (twenty years ago)

I'll stick with the cliches, Jase.

"One swallow, a summer does not make."

The Eagers proved themselve a number of years ago, and are now a team that can never be discounted. They may have a poor, recent, interstate record and and even poorer finals record, but they cannot be discounted.

Port have a poor finals record and a recent success. They are not yet a feared team in the mould of Brisbane(recently)or Essendon(over a number of years). They simply have not stood the test of time.

The Crows have "walked the talk"(more cliches) and are highly regarded by all teams, other than Port, and can be considered to be South Aussie's "litmus paper".

We will have to wait until the end of this season to see if Port are "one hit wonders" or the "real deal".

And talking success, I was very interested to read in the local Press recently, that Fremantle's Cameron Schwab is forecasting that the Dockers will soon(within the next few years) join the other 4 Superclubs of the AFL.

His forecast is that Brisbane, West Coast, Adelaide, Collingwood and Fremantle will become the nucleus of the AFL in the very near future.
I find his comment to be slightly amusing but wonder how the teams mentioned sit with my analysis of the "Power Teams!!!"(I call 3 from 4 - how could you pick Collingwood?).

All this is probably of no concern to you at all, Jase, but the truth of the matter is that the Power have not yet proved themselves to be any better than St Kilda, which has also won 1 Flag. If they win again this year, they are only equal to the Crows and the Eagles and still behind Richmond and Collingwood.

It's all subjective, really, but I love discussing it.

Westener (Westener), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

How can you call Fremantle?? They have consistently done fugg all and the Cows will be down for years.

regards,

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

Westerner, id suggest maybe your whole argument is based on the past. Means nought if you were a feared team 10 years ago, present day the eagles arent rated as a power team ratehr a potential team, or prolly closer to the mark a side that when put under pressure fail and repeatedly fail, 10 years wasnt it??

The fact you dont rate us makes the premiership taste so sweeter, and one day we might be able to meet your mob in a final if they could actually get past week one. Is it really 10 years since a final win???

Are you an old crows supporter, them being highly regarded, who are these people, certainly not many i know, they are a crap team and will be for years.

As for Cameron Schwab, what a pillock, freo cant even compete with the west coast.

jsa, Wednesday, 16 March 2005 01:23 (twenty years ago)

And as for the flag counting, perhaps a better statistic is how long they have been around, so comparing to one flag at st kilda and port adelaide is an ignorant way of looking at it.

We would be preferred to be compared to a team that has been around as long say perhaps freo

jsa, Wednesday, 16 March 2005 01:26 (twenty years ago)

OK, Jase. You're one up on Freo. Does that make PP 100% or 1000% better than them.

As I said, it is subjective.

And your argument that my analysis is based in the past is correct. Just as PP's GF win. It's last year. In the Past. But how much do we dwell on it to prove that "our" team is better than "their" team.

I have never said that I don't rate PP. I said that their recent exploits in winning a flag does not mean that they have the choker tag eliminated. They have only proved that once is possible. Let's see the backup season before we begin to Crow(couldn't resist that one)

I'm NOT an old Crows supporter, in fact the sweetest thing I have ever heard was the score many years ago with the Eagers kicking 30 odd goals Vs Adelaide. Loverly.

REB, Schwab's comments had nothing to do with on field success. He was talking membership and influence.

Westener (Westener), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 12:54 (twenty years ago)

two years pass...
