Perhaps this mob has been the biggest dissapointment of the season thus far. After all the hoo-hah accompanying their Harry P win, they have only played one really good half of football, and that was the dramatic match against the Bombers in the second round.

I think that if it wasn't for a few other notable teams struggling at present, they would be well and truly in the gun. I really don't think they have improved at all if the start of this season is any guide.

If they lose to the Hawks on Friday then we could see some sh*t hitting the fan. Big match for the CFC.

LMAO. And how far ahead were the Bummers at lemon time of this mob the other week? 28points wasn't it? LOL. Be afraid susso, very afraid. Carlton have lost a bit of potency because they have lost a couple of backmen (not an area of strength in a complete Blues line up) and this has forced the breakup of the Whitnall-Fev combination.

Carlton have also had back to back interstate trips which adds up to Essendon's total road trips for the last five years ha ha (slight exaggeration there LOL). I think the Blues are travelling better than quite a few sides as you have mentioned and nearly knocked off the Power on their own patch so the 'one half of football' arguement seems a little thin.

On the other hand, check out the frees for stats and goals from frees stats...Carlton are 1st and 2nd in these statistical catergories..so the umps are trying to get them up.

They will beat Hawthorn this week....says the bloke who is propping up the tipping ladder ;)

Have they improved REB? That is the point of my post. I think they've gone backwards.

Seems the tribunal is working their way as well, how could fevola's charge be graded at a 3 week suspension and when he appears he gets to.

jsa, Wednesday, 27 April 2005 23:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Because on Monday Carlton secretly installed Nick Stevens as the tribunal chairman. (Also the fact that Grover may have been strangling him (Fevola that is, sorry to dash your fave fantasy Jase) at the time, may have had some bearing on it.)

But guilty or innocent of that particular charge, I am starting to get very jack of hanging about waiting for Fevola to grow up and he might soon find himself in Damian Cupido territory. (Wallsy - book BF in for your Wednesday Bagging in two weeks. It worked for Tarrant and Pavlich, dammit!)

Carlton's loss to Collingwood looked disgraceful at the time and looks even worse now. They were persistent but fairly patchy against Port and very ordinary v the less than frightening might of Freo. Sod the travel, at least it's all out of the way at once and at least we got half a win out of the Doomsday Double. It ain't an excuse.

If Carlton lose either of our next two (v Hawthorn and Richmond) it may be time to give some of our 2004 draftees a shot.

Hard to tell if a side has improved in the space of five rounds Susso. After all, when your list is completely overturned as Carlton's has (like Geelong, St Kilda and Freo before them)it can take anything up to five YEARS to see if a side has improved.

At this stage Carlton are a young side that will at times be brilliant and at other times deplorable. Have they improved? Look at the results of the last couple of years...the win loss record may not be much better but there hasn't been any 100point thrashings so far this year.

Fox Footy's current ad for On The Couch with Nick Stevens declares Carlton as 'a genuine challenger (or something to that effect) in season 2005'. I can only assume it was made in March.

the win loss record may not be much better but there hasn't been any 100point thrashings so far this year.

More to come.

Could be Susso. You can put me down as an observer who has had the wool well and truly pulled over the eyes. Big Fev is the key to this side and the fact that he hasn't been firing is a big problem for Carlton. Throw in the injuries to the backmen and you have to send Whitnall back there and all of a sudden Carlton have little to kick to.

However, considering the fixture...I won't be bagging Carlton this week if you don't mind. :)
