Don't get carried away about Brisbane

I see from the weekend press that "the heard" has started the line of "something wicked this way comes" regarding Brisbane and Port.

As a very sober Lions supporter I'd like to say, bullshit! I have seen this season as a year of building and with 8 out of the 10 new boys this year I'm really happy. (Spandermann and Ryswyk have not really had a chance) But the next month will sort this season out for the Lions, Geelong, Collingwood, Melbourne at the 'ttoir and West Coast in Perth will be better than a good test. Any more then two wins from that lot will be a real bonus and would still leave them 7 and 9 and one/two games out of the eight.

The next four games for Brisbane will see the continuation of some good development of the young'uns, Luke Power to re-sign, but not a final eight side, yet!

Now where is that Melbourne Cup list of acceptances?

Hey BB have you heard that Power has re-signed or is this a prediction?

Hope he does we certainly need him to help lead the club into the future

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 06:07 (twenty years ago)

Nah Lucy just a prediction, hence the comment about picking the Cup winner in June.

Damn!

Will definetly jump ship and head south.

Hope not JSA - hope this is another thing you're wrong about, but I must admit the longer he leaves it the more agitated I get!

Take it from me lucy, when a bloke says he there is no rush or hes leaving it for the endd of teh season, he is basically saying he is going and cant say yet for fear Leigh and Johnno will belt him.

The way those two (Matthews and Brown) have carried on would be enough for me to want to leave.

chrisso (chrisso), Thursday, 16 June 2005 23:02 (twenty years ago)

True Chrisso, but you can bet your bottom dollar that by the time the spin-doctors have done their thing Power will be an even bigger slime-bag than Des Headland or Shane O'Bree, and not really that much of a player anyway, and the fans will swallow the lot whole. If an already-notorious serial windbag like John Elliott can get away with that bullshit over Aaron Hamill, it'll be plain sailing for somebody of Matthews' standing to win this PR stoush.

And besides, blaming the bloke who's just left is Tactic 1 in the Cowboy Guide To Bad Management In The New Millennium.

Just you blokes wait until Reiwolt wants to come home. Let's compare and contrast then.

Big Bird (Big Bird), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 03:35 (twenty years ago)

Fair call there BB - but it will be a level salary capped playing field by then :)

By the way, Power looks good surrounded by his team mates, but he's not one of the Fab 4 and isn't quite their extraordinary class.

I watched Sundays game from the comfort of my lounge - J Brown might not only be the best CHF in the comp, he could also be the most influential midfielder in the game. And that Akka character could be the most talented bloke in the game.

Bennö (Bennö), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 10:18 (twenty years ago)

Benno Powers game on Sunday was certainly not his best or most influential but take another look he's always there. Great player hope he stays.

Oh level playing field - bull shite. Arn't they now talking about Collingwood playing even more games at home and never travelling. That's one playing field that's totally uneven!

'Just you blokes wait until Reiwolt wants to come home. Let's compare and contrast then.'

In my case you can do it now. Check out my comments re one N. Davis.

Even though he ended up at the club that perfected the art of wasting their high draft picks on players that were never going to hang around and then piling on the outrage when these blokes, to the surprise of absolutely nobody, cleared off the moment their first contract ran out.

two months pass...
looks like luke will sign up u cant say that to the press n then not put pen to paper can u?

Kate Power, Friday, 2 September 2005 05:42 (twenty years ago)

Hello and welcome Kate Power. You can say anything you like to the press, in fact even if you dont say anything to the press they'll print it anyway and attribute it to you. I think it will take some pretty big shoving to get rid of Luke - he's a Lion for life (I hope!) :)
