The hard choice was a toss up between Hawthorn and Port Adelaide for a spot in my eight and the other team most likely to fail could be Collingwood. Those footsteps must be deafening.
I like Des Headland to catch the eye of the umpires consistently and Lloyd will kick lots of goals.
My Rising Star could be any one of many, Cooney has appeal as does Wells, Brennan and many others.
For an Eagles supporter, it pains me to say it, but I reckon we will see lots of Polak and Sandilands this season. Sandilands especially, he hasn't got any taller but has put on kilos and now runs around at about 120kg and 7 foot plus, he will not be pushed off the ball easily.

Jude Bolton is a hack. O'Loughlin is lazy. Goodes has the goods, and BBBBH is a top level FF, but I think they are overrated...
ps - Fred - Carlton - buying lots of discards does not make a good team....

1. Who is St Kilda's ruckman? Do they have anyone?2. Who have the Hawks got besides Crawford?
Still, it is February, the time of year when the Hawks are at their peak!

― Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)
My dislike of the Swans is at teh same level as that of the Blues.
Williams is a champ, and the only Pie that I am disappointed we got rid of in the last few years. Although, being a backman myself, I do miss Mal Michael and Andrew Schauble...
Craig Bolton is about the best 6 foot defender in the comp too...
There is a lot to like about the Swans, but I just can't...
Saints ruckman? Some bloke called Koschitske is pretty handy...
― Bennö (Bennö), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 04:17 (twenty-two years ago)
Here are some ruckman that are more than handy, White, King, Gardiner, Primus, Keating, Sandilands, Stafford, Everitt, Goodes,Darcy....Kozzie and the Saints will have their work cut out for them this year I believe.
― Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 06:18 (twenty-two years ago)
You forgot to mention, Charman and McDonald.

― Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 08:23 (twenty-two years ago)
Got to agree with you to a certain extent(as much as it goes against the grain)
Sydney, to me, are a bit suspect as a consistently good team, however, they play lots of games at home and will win a fair percentage of them as shown last year by the inability of the Vics to win away from Melbourne. That alone will propel them into the 8.
Can't remember the stats but it was something like a couple wins and a draw, away from Vic. Pretty poor in my opinion.

REB, surely u dont mean the white from melbourne??? reminds me a lot of big soft benny graham
― jsa, Wednesday, 11 February 2004 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)
Open the other eye Jase!
ps - Cornes at CHB? Another stroke of genius from the master coach (after all, it worked so well against the Pies in the Prelim final). Maybe the sniper will win his Brownlow from CHF LOL.
:)
― Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Thursday, 12 February 2004 01:25 (twenty-two years ago)
Please REB, get it right, he didnt play CHB in the final he played loose man in defence, great move by chocko, what a super coach.
As for white, 6ft 7 built like a brick shithouse can jump over mountains and has the heart the size of a pea. Sound Familiar???

I noticed you included sandilands?? dhas he performed better than brogan over the course of his career?? your starting to sound like a cows supporter
― jsa, Thursday, 12 February 2004 04:44 (twenty-two years ago)
Beau (correctly has a very sad name, but heh if you played as well as him you too could change your name to something big and butch like "rik e boy" LOL
As for young Jamie Charman having a role model like "crackers" certainly will not do him any harm and I think after a full season and a premiership he'll be playing mighty fine this season.
:D
― Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Thursday, 12 February 2004 05:25 (twenty-two years ago)
As for Sandilands, I guess I included him because he's such a big bugger! OK, dry your tears now...Brogan is a top ruckman as well. Sensitive new age Power fans, what happened to the ol'Ethelton spirit hey Jase?

― Bennö (Bennö), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 00:09 (twenty-two years ago)
Here are my predictions (after Round 22), copied from my own thread:
1. Brisbane2. Adelaide3. Port Adelaide4. Sydney5. Hawthorn6. West Coast7. Collingwood8. Fremantle9. St Kilda10. Essendon11. Kangaroos12. Richmond13. Geelong14. Carlton15. Bulldogs16. Melbourne
Not as confident this year about my selections, particularly the bottom half.
Brisbane should win their first McClelland Trophy (minor premiership). I just think the gap has got wider between the Lions and their nearest challengers.
Port and Collingwood both have to overcome huge double letdowns. The psychological effects of twice being minor premiers and not making the GF (Port) and twice being beaten in the GF (Pies) would be devastating. Perhaps Port might handle it slightly better than Collingwood, but in any case both still have the talent to make the 8. But it will be tough for both of them to repeat last year's (and 2002) rankings.
Sydney might also experience a letdown from their terrific season in 2003. Paul Roos seems to preparing us for as much. But I think they will improve further as a team, though not necessarily finish any higher.
The Crows therefore might be the team to challenge the Lions. If Carey fires and stays fit, they will be up there.
My only change to the top 8 is Hawthorn for Essendon. The Bombers are on the downward slide, which is only natural after their heights of 1999-2001. The Hawks have a good list and are ridiculously favoured by the draw (only 3 trips outside Victoria, no trips to Perth, 4 games against teams on the rebound from Perth trips, and only 2 of 7 teams played twice are from last year's top 8!!!!!). Once again the unfair draw, and the assistance it gives Victorian clubs, will be a talking point.
The Eagles and Dockers will be thereabouts again. St Kilda are a chance, but might just need one more year before they really make the big time. I like their young list, but am still not sure about the coach!
The rest don't look too flash to me. Richmond might improve, but they would bloody well need to or their coach is history (same can be said for Hawthorn). Geelong don't have enough match winners. The Roos will always turn up, but shouldn't threaten the 8. The rest are history.

During his time living in Berlin, he enjoyed some success as a horse-breeder. During this period, he became an unofficial agent and advisor to London on international events.
In 1933 Wheeler-Bennett told the Royal Institute of International Affairs:
"Hitler, I am convinced, does not want a war. He is susceptible to reason in matters of foreign policy. He is greatly anxious to make Germany self-respecting and is himself anxious to be respectable. He may be described as the most moderate member of his party." (International Affairs, May 1933, pp 318–9)
