Admiration list...an antidote to 'most disliked'

Thought I'd post something a bit more positive.

Adelaide: Neil Craig. Under-estimated by Victorians but one smart operator.

Brisbane: Acker, I like his style..yeah he talks the talk but he also walks the walk.

Carlton: David Teague. This guy has a real crack and goes in.

Collingwood: Scott Burns. Always been a Burns fan...that's scott, not Monty.

Essendon: James Hird. You'd have to be fairly one eyed not to admire this footballer.

Fremantle: Matty Pavlich for not getting the hell out of there.

Geelong: Darren Milburn. Never gets kudos but is solid week in week out. A bad game a rarity...plus he took out SOS and exposed Murphy as the Carlton goose he really was.

Hawthorn: Angelo Lekkas. Gutsy effort to get back into the game.

Kangaroos: Dean Laidley. Appears to have taken on board some flak for his early style and has grown with the role.

Melbourne: Jeff White for not getting hysterical..unlike plenty of others.

Port: Matty Primus for not dropping the head despite what has happened to him..showed why Port made him captain.

Richmond: The perserverence of Shane Tuck.

St Kilda: Robert Harvey. The opposition player I admire the most. The very definition of a champion.

Sydney: The whole club but especially coach Roos who proved to be as gracious in victory as he has been in defeat..choco take note.

West Coast: A gutsy effort by Kerr to come on and have some influence on the Grand Final.

Western Bulldogs: Brad Johnson..for that huge smile and a positive attitude through the tough times.

regards,

REB

ESS: James Hird for standing up to Sheedy and surviving, Kevin Sheedy for getting the best out of James Hird. Honorable mentions to Tim Watson for a great career, for not joining the ex-player whingers in the media, and for admitting he was a crap coach, and to Dean Wallis for not letting total absence of ability stop him

SYDNEY: All of them but especially Ben Matthews for standing in the Lockett 'hot spot' when the Plugmeister wanted his old number back, creating hilarious outrage among some of the more hysterical comentators

WEST COAST: Chris Judd, Glenn Jakovich, the 'pioneers' from the early days like Maiwaring and Heady and Guy McKenna

BULLDOGS: Chris Grant, Brad Johnson, Rohan mith, Scott West for surviving the 2001 forum fiasco, EJ, Demps, Doug Hawkins

Essendon: James Hird a genuine superstar and the johnson boys who give 100%

Geelong: Scarlett clearly the best fullback without having to belt blokes, just plays the ball nice and hard and Ling another without the hype but rarely gets beaton

Adelaide-McLeod(agree with Benno) & Shaun Rehn, liked his style
Brisbane-Aker & Voss - both a cut above
Carlton-Rattan - he was Carlton personified
Collingwood-Buckley - as with Aker, a dickhead but you have to admire his skill
Essendon-Hird for obvious reasons & Lucas never stops trying
Fremantle-Haselby, champion & Sandilands for novelty value
Geelong-Milburn for similar reasons to REB
Hawthorn-Spider, again for obvious reasons
Kangaroos-Carey, he could appear on both the Admired and Disliked Lists for me. Arrogant champion.
Melbourne-Johnstone, another tosser that has sublime skills.
Port Adelaide-James, a pity that injury finally got him.
Richmond-Kellaways, hardworkers both
St Kilda-Harvey, is there anyone else on that team that comes close?
Sydney-Keneally, for the sheer joy he gets from the game.
West Coast-Dean Kemp, to my mind, the best Eagle to pull on a boot.
West Bulldogs-Johnson, never-say-die attitude

Westener (Westener), Sunday, 2 October 2005 23:19 (twenty years ago)

Sorry Westy but the best Eagle must be Jakovich!

regards,

REB

I can only say that you must have missed most of Kemp's games, REB.
