Lets try something 'new'.:-)
3 - Adelaide Crows. They get more impressive by the week.
2 - Nathan Thompson. Answered all his critics in the best possible fashion.
1 - Chris Judd. Must have taken a strong will to keep his lip buttoned when the Freo fans were booing him for his great game. Classy as his footy skills.

Biggest loser - The Freo fans. Footy fans had some good will towards Freo this week; the morons in the crowd on Saturday undid it.

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 8 May 2006 02:09 (nineteen years ago)

3 - Neil Craig - pretty impressive, all that without Riccuito and a few others
2 - Kevin Sheedy - for not bagging his players but keeping positive
1 - Mick Malthouse - for not rubbing it in too hard ... no strike that I can cope
1 - John Worsfold - as gentlemanly in defeat as victory.

Biggest loser - Justin Kosi(etc) poor bugger cant stay on the ground for more than two games (however fair hip and shoulder from Giansiracusa)

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Monday, 8 May 2006 06:24 (nineteen years ago)

3 - Collingwood continue to impress. Can't wait for the Colliwobbles to set in.
2 - Nathan Thompson - brilliant - but where was that when he was at the Hawks.
1 - Essendon - they keep on getting sooo close. Five losses in a row by 3 goals or less (they need two more to equal the Kangaroos all time record)

Hawka (hawka), Monday, 8 May 2006 10:36 (nineteen years ago)

3- Brisbane Lions on fire and Acker perfectly balanced
2- Geelong performing brilliantly again
1- Essendon choking in another close match

Oops..I just submitted the negative votes LOL.

regards,

REB

Essendon choking in another close match
It's a real pity that a lot is being made of Jobe Watson's miss because if it wasn't for him we would have been beaten by 4 goals - his last 1/4 was sensational and I was a little dissapointed with Lucas's histrionics TTYTT.

chrisso (chrisso), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 00:40 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah it's easy to blame the Watsons and Monfrieses but young players will have their ups and downs. Both will be top players for the Dons for years to come.

regards,

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 05:11 (nineteen years ago)

Didn't see all of the game Chrisso but I think Monfries is going to be a great little player, more value then Lloyd.

I also firmly believe if the younguns don't get a chance to make mistakes and learn - they will never develop footy smarts.

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 06:12 (nineteen years ago)

I think Monfries is going to be a great little player, more value then Lloyd.

So, Lucy, you're tipping Monfries to be an all-time great?

chrisso (chrisso), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 01:51 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know about all time but I reckon he'll be in your top 10 when it comes to Club Champion for Essendon

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 05:06 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know about all time
Well, if you're talking about someone who in your opinion will be more valuable than Essendon's greatest ever goal kicker, you are talking about someone very, very special indeed.

chrisso (chrisso), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 07:28 (nineteen years ago)

3 - Chris Judd. Freak
2 - Melbourne - keeping it rolling
1 - Jonathan Brown

Biggest loser - Saints or Essendon. Take your pick

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 15 May 2006 01:43 (nineteen years ago)

3 - Chris Judd. Incredible Freak
2 - Sydney - playing good footy
1 - Michael Voss - he was incredible on Saturday night, may have onoly got 29 disposals but his presence was awesome

Biggest loser - Akermanis. (He was doing alright, taking his demotion like a professional, plyaed really well in the twos and then today! - opened his mouth.) Sorry Aker I love the way you play and can appreciate you contribution to our great team, but mate remember it is about the team and not YOU!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Monday, 15 May 2006 04:11 (nineteen years ago)

The three votes is a no-contest and goes to Allan Didak for making that fat turd in the crowd crap himself.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 04:43 (nineteen years ago)

I used to think Aker was footy's Greg Matthews: ability to play matched only be ability to be bloody irritating, but with genuine heart and passion under all the bulldust, and will eventually be seen as a great servant of his game.

But Greg would have well and truly shut up by now. Maybe Jase deep down just doesn't have the brains.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 04:48 (nineteen years ago)

3 Collingwood - White hot.
2 Neitz - breaks club record during a very good game for him
1 Dane Swan - the futers so bright he's gotta wear shades.

Biggest Loser Terry Wallace - You won Terry, but you did the game of AFL no favours.

chrisso (chrisso), Sunday, 21 May 2006 22:57 (nineteen years ago)

3 David Neitz for telling the vultures to sod off for one more week, 2 Josh Fraser, Alan Didak, Ryan Lonie and a couple of other blokes I had to convince Benno were still worth the effort a couple of years back, 1 Courtney Johns for still having the guts to wear that 'Albino Rasta' look in full public gaze, and for not playing a bad game.

Dishonorable mentions:

The whole Carlton team (minus Brendan Fevola) for amassing an incredible SEVEN BEHINDS (some of which may have been rushed) through four quarters of football. As Denis says, one step forwards, one Evel Kneivel leap backwards.

Hawthorn and Port weren't a whole lot better and Geelong weren't better at all and may even have been worse, albeit against better opposition.

The fact that the PFJ's ambush worked on Saturday was at least as much Clever Clogs Craig's fault as Wallace's.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 22 May 2006 01:15 (nineteen years ago)

3. Leon Davis, Dane Swan, Heath Shaw - all coming into their own as senior footballers worthy of their spots on the list, despite the constant calls for them to be delisted or traded on bigfooty for each of the last two years.

2. Melbourne - especially Brock McLean. He's got all the skills, is tough as nails and is as much a leader of the D's as Neitz.

1. Terry Wallace and the Tigers. They played the game to their strenghts. And it would have only worked at the basketball stadium Telstra dome. Try doing it against Geelong at Kardinia Park this weekend and they will get belted by a hundred again.

Losers - Geelong. Best team they had on the paddock all year and were abysmal. Honourable mentions - bye bye for 06 for the Kangas, Bombers, Port and Carlton. They should all tank it for the next 16 weeks and hope for high draft picks as none of them are any good...

Bennö (Bennö), Monday, 22 May 2006 01:19 (nineteen years ago)

UPDATE:

Fev kicked five of Carlton's ten behinds, and three more were contributed by the opposition. The remaining two came from Simon Wiggins.

When was the last time Mr Rushed, the football equivalent of Tim Lane's mate Xavier Tras, was the second-largest contributor to a team's score?

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 22 May 2006 02:05 (nineteen years ago)

3 - Luke Power sensational game
2 - My Lions for two wins in a row
1 - Aker for shutting up and playing a good team game

I'm going to become quite Lioncentric for awhile just to make sure the boys feel supported! :)

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Monday, 22 May 2006 06:28 (nineteen years ago)

- 3: Bomber Thompson. If you don't believe in your team they won't believe in themselves.
- 2: Campbell Brown. Lost a physical contest early on and spent the rest of the match trying to prove how tough he was to the detriment of his side
- 1: Port Adelaide football club. Wooden spoon favourites after they lose to Essendon this week.

regards,

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 01:55 (nineteen years ago)

-4 (appropriately): Richard Vandenberg for wasting his club's and the tribunal's time and stupidly picking up another week.

'Dick the Head' must be the worst captain the AFL has seen since Murray Rance.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 11:19 (nineteen years ago)

Top 3

3. Richmond Football Club - another win against all odds.
2. Brisbane - on their way back?
1. Rhyce Shaw - on the long road to recovery after an ACL.

Losers of the week? A tie between Carlton/Geelong/Essendon/Hawks/Roos/Freo players and coaches

Worst luck of the week
Rob Murphy and the Dogs as they lose their 4th player to ACL for the season...

Bennö (Bennö), Monday, 29 May 2006 05:16 (nineteen years ago)

3: SANFL is still the No.2 league, son.
2: CHRIS JUDD'S HAMSTRING
1: Richmond wins in Geelong?? NO WAI!!

The Notorious ESTEBAN BUTTEZ (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Monday, 29 May 2006 06:09 (nineteen years ago)

3 Sydney
2 Richmond
3 Nathan Eagleton for his 1st 1/4 on Friday

Biggest Loser: ESSENDON.

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 29 May 2006 06:46 (nineteen years ago)

-3 Robert KnoWalls pathetic comments regarding Essendon. What a wanker.

-2 The umpire who paid that horrible free kick against Milburn. When you are not you are not!

-1 Geelong's kicking in the last quarter. Bad kicking is bad fooball.

regards,

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 02:08 (nineteen years ago)

3. Michael Voss - just because he is great
2. Sheedy - for staying positive
1. Tarrant - for being free with his punchs

Biggest loser - The Kangaroos fan hit by a train after the verbal exchange with Laidley

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 06:25 (nineteen years ago)

-3 Andy D chest-beating on Friday night after Aust-Greece. We are not all going to forget AFL and concentrate solely on soccer, no SIUUBG, FOOTBALL, not even if Australia WIN the bloody World Cup. Honest! So FFS back off the paranoia

-2 The judo throw which ended Murphy's season. Anthony Rocca isn't the type of player to deliberately wreck another bloke's knee, but any players like that who are around, now have a video step-by-step guide how to do it. Next similar injury and the rules will be looked at, and the Dermies will all resume their 'netball' whine

-1 Thommo for his 'go home at quarter time' threat. Not for the first time in 2006, a bloke called Thompson slipped out of the media gaze between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning because their attention was diverted elsewhere on Sunday

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 07:08 (nineteen years ago)

3 Andrew McLeod. Bore an uncanny resemblance to that other Andy McLeod who used to play for Adelaide, who must have retired by now after they'd been writing him off five years ago.

2 Ben Cousins. Sometimes not the cleverest boy in the class off-field but always a totally committed professional on it. (Er, Ben, you do realise you're a million-to-one shot to get the Chief Tosser gig back while Juddy's out, of course? Good.)

1 Robert Murphy. For the best pre-game interview I've heard all season. This boy is a genuine, non-media-manufactured Character. And the longer he can keep Eddie and co at arm's length, the longer he'll stay that way.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 07:57 (nineteen years ago)

3 Adelaide - quite awesome.
2 BBBB Hall - this comps greatest captain ATM.
1 West Coast - great comeback

Biggest loser - Essendon for the second week running.

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 5 June 2006 01:37 (nineteen years ago)

-3 Geelong football club. How can you lose a game when you are nine goals up halfway through the third quarter? Only the Cats could have managed it.

-2 Grant Thomas for his woeful comments in the press conference after the Melbourne game. Worst metaphor for the season. What a git.

-1 The idiot who called Brogan a dickhead, even though Brogan proved he was by punching out the knob jockey.

regards,

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Monday, 5 June 2006 01:40 (nineteen years ago)

Grant Thomas for his woeful comments in the press conference after the Melbourne game. Worst metaphor for the season

Are you talking about the Smartie comment?

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 5 June 2006 03:07 (nineteen years ago)

3. Brisbane for the good game, I thought we played well considering how good Colin Wood is playing.

2. Geelong football club. How can you lose a game when you are nine goals up halfway through the third quarter? Only the Cats could have managed it. - I'm absolutely staggered that Thomposn moved Mooney!

1. Leppitsch retirement - very sad.

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Monday, 5 June 2006 06:25 (nineteen years ago)

No the 'punch in the mouth' metaphor. Very average.

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 02:19 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, saw that last night on WLF or On The Couch (can't remember which one) and it was typical Thomas. What a smug git he is!

Has the Saints' window of oppurtunity closed? Have they blown it? Will this list ever get a premiership? It must be doubtful now.

chrisso (chrisso), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 02:41 (nineteen years ago)

I reckon they missed it by 1 - 2 seasons!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 06:41 (nineteen years ago)

It can't be coincidence that so many St Kilda players are permenently injured. Aaron Hamill, for instance, hardly ever missed a week while he was at Carlton.

The bloke I feel sorriest for is Rob Harvey. Oh well, maybe he will coach the next St Kilda premiership team with Reivoldt, Ball, Del Santo, Kosamnewmanski and the Clarkes still as the nucleus. But unless the medicos at st Kilda get the bum's rush soon, most of those blokes will be pushing it playing golf without a ride-on buggy in five years, let alone AFL footy.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 07:32 (nineteen years ago)

3. Sydney swans. The comeback on Sunday was outstanding. BBBBBBB Hall is the hardest player in the league to mark up on - you stand a tall on him, he kills them on the ground. Put a small fast player, and he's too big and strong. The No 1 most influential forward in the league
2. Adelaide. Wow
1. Richmond. Keep surprising - despite a loss...

Next weeks predictions

3. Socceroos bandwagon gets enormous
2. Socceroos draw 0-0 with Japan, lose 1-0 Brazil, draw 0-0 Croatia to miss out on qualification to the 2nd round on goal difference
1. Socceroos bagged for negative boring football by the media...

Let me go on the record now as saying that anything less than qualifying from the group stages will be treated as a failure by the fickle Aussie media. Personally, not coming bottom of the group is a good result. 3rd in group would mean we are better than a) The world champs b) one of the two best teams in Europe c) the best team in asia

Bennö (Bennö), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 10:47 (nineteen years ago)

"3rd in group would mean we are better than either,a) The world champs b) one of the two best teams in Europe c) the best team in asia"

Forgot one little word...

Bennö (Bennö), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 01:06 (nineteen years ago)

3 - Melbourne footy club (do we take them seriously now?)
2 - Richmond footy club (do we take them seriously now?)
1 - Ackermanis for his peerless wet weather skills.

Biggest loser- Carlton. How did they lose that?

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 12 June 2006 23:53 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeah...

4 - Soccerooooooooooosssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 12 June 2006 23:54 (nineteen years ago)

-3 : Umpires in any West Coast game. Don't they just love the Weagles?
-2 : The Roos. Now that Geelong have won and Sheedy is doing his spin, the Roos are under the gun!
-1: St Kilda. Why did they take so long to pick Rix??

regards,

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 01:54 (nineteen years ago)

3. Aaron Davey. The name that SHOULD stop all pontifications about the draft being foolproof.

2. Mattie McGuire. Only on Planet AFL could a bloke thump another bloke and it's the thumpee that has all the moral obligations and expectations afterwards. Great game.

1. Tim Cahill.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 04:18 (nineteen years ago)

3 - Lions effort against the Crows - excellent game even in the wet!
2 - Ackermanis for his peerless wet weather skills.
1 - Tim Notting, Jason Roe, Simon Black and Luke Power couldn't decide who was better so they all get a run.

and I'll join chrisso on..

4 - Soccerooooooooooosssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 06:22 (nineteen years ago)

3 - Geoff Ogilvy
2 - Socceroos ~ World class!!
1 - Wallabies

Biggest loser - 2006 AFL season. Can't wait for it to end.

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 19 June 2006 00:06 (nineteen years ago)

3 - All the crap about Michael Voss's 300th game - apparently is wasn't according to the Club
2 - The 17th team we could field from our injuries - it's not too bad
1 - We missed Mal Michael more than Jonathan Brown on the weekend

Thanks Hawthorn for winning - you are my saving grace along with Adelaide so far this weekend!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Monday, 19 June 2006 07:01 (nineteen years ago)

OK, its Saturday night, but the round is over

3. The Johnny Warren-aroos! The greatest bandwagon that was ever created. Come on Aussie. Kick azzurri ass Tuesday morning....
2. Mighty Pies surprise even the believers after the Swans seemingly got on one of their rolls...
1. Dean Laidley. With the Bombers next week, he might find himself out of the headlines for a couple of weeks.

Honourable mention - Harry O'Brien and Simon Prestigiacomo - both outstanding and underrated backmen on Saturday night...

Bennö (Bennö), Saturday, 24 June 2006 12:02 (nineteen years ago)

3. Brisbane Lions Team of the Decade - sensational
OK here we go my new strategy for the rest of the year....
2. Hot Pies - premiership certanties!
1. Harry O'Brien and Simon Prestigiacomo - both outstanding and underrated backmen on Saturday night (Nearly as underrated as Man Mountain Mal Michael.

Pies for the Premiership!
