Here is an early nomination for the worst football story of the year. Even I wouldn't write off West Coast and Adelaide if they played as badly as Collingwood or Hawthorn on the strength of just one match of basketball.

Do Chip le Grand's mates call him 'Chip le Shoulder'?

Is CLG Pat Smith's latest alias, or just his protege?

It was a great piece of work to irritate the shit out of the Mr Ed supporters at work. Even managed to keep them speechless for 2 minutes - that's an achievement.

Then of course, they came back with....

But we had to travel.
We didn't have our full side
Mick was confused

etc
etc

LL

All I got was, "Well it's only a practice match"

Mind you that was countered with,"Yeah I know, but don't yer have any PRIDE"

Hey Westener and REB, there is an article in The Courier Mail this morning by Darren Cartwright, describing how both West Coast and Geelong had a chance to draft Joel MacDonald (number 26 for the Lions), he was one of the best players on Sunday against Hawthorn.

Apparently both West Coast and Geelong showed strong interest in him in 2002 Draft but both clubs after various meeting and correspondence let him slip through their net. It was after that draft closed Lethal offered him a spot on our rookie list.

Westener this could prove as devastating as letting Simon Black slip through back in 1997.

Joel McDonald? Big f deal. I'm still stressing about Jonathon Brown, Ben Cosusins and Matty Primus. They'd be more than handy additions to the Catter line up!

Don't think you should waste any energy on Jonathan Brown - he's more than happy where he is, as is Cousins I'd suggest. And I'll give you Primus plays better but I think he has the same temperament as Sookie Bubba Richardson, and would end up being detrimental to your team,.

Ya can't draft 'em all Lucy. What year was McDonald and who did the Egirls(it's catching on REB) take that year?

Bit the same as saying we shoulda took Polak but we got Sampi instead. The best deal there won't be realised until well into their careers. Polak would be terrific in the Eagles team but, hey, I'm not complaining about Sampi, he's a terrific young footballer.

I sit back pretty satisfied with the draft. We got one of the all time bargains with Dean Kemp at(I think) 113. And didn't the Vics squark about the concessions etc, etc re Kemp and Brett Heady, but they were both legit draft picks(Heady at about 84). A recruiting coup.

McDonald might have been alright but I suspect we have done reasonably well also.

And for your info, it would have been nice to get Black but then he wouldn't have been a part of the terrific Brisbane story. Que sera sera!

Westener (Westener), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

All true Westener, Sampi is fantastic to watch, love seeing players that just look as though they are having a fun time (and playing great footy). As for Kemp and Heady - both great.

And I'm really happy Blackie is "...a part of the terrific Brisbane story."
