Cats v Saints Final

It will be a 'replay' of one of the best matches of the 90s, the 'One Week Early' 3 v 4 elimination final epic between 1991's two excitement machines, when Plugga kicked 9 but missed the potential winner, Billy Brainless kicked 8, and all the stars of both teams turned it on. Both teams backed up again in 1992. The system didn't.

The two beaten semi-finalists, who played the Clayton's final the day before in 1991 which gave the winner out of two royally past-it teams a soft pasage to Week 2, were Essendon and Melbourne. I suspect at Donland the wheel has turned full circle in 13 years.

Has 2004 produced its first big surprise: a Who Cares Cup final that's potentially worth watching?

It could be worth watching, if the Catters can match the efforts of St Kilda. They have been awesome so far this year but some of Geelong's sins of recent seasons aren't completely banished, sad to say.

One thing in our favour is that our defence looks pretty good and that's a must if we are to counter St Kilda's attack. If Big Ben can kick straight we might be half a chance.

REB

PS - What adds to this match is the fact that the two sides met in Round 22 last year and will meet in Round 1 of this season. A Cat trifecta against the Saints would go a long way to establishing the much craved repectability out at Catland. Needless to say, I haven't begun to count the poultry yet..
