Fri 26 Mar 04
Richmond v Collingwood MCG - Collingwood (This may be the only one they win - with a bit of luck!)

Sat 27 Mar 04
Hawthorn v Melbourne MCG - Hawthorn (Crawford should be back - Daniher is wearing his best defeated face at the moment)
Fremantle v Carlton Sub - Fremantle (Even without Headland I think home advantage will count)
Bris Lions v Sydney Gabba - Brisbane (What can I say - even if Voss, Leppitsch, Chris Scott, Jonanthan Brown and Beau McDonald, don't play I think we have a great chance)
St Kilda v Geelong TD - Geelong (Saints probably can't reproduce the same passion as the Whiz Final)

Sun 28 Mar 04
Port Adelaide v Essendon FP - Port Adelaide (Essendon too many injuries)
Kangaroos v Adelaide MCG - Kangaroos (Dark horses)
W Bulldogs v West Coast TD - Western Bulldogs (On a roll)

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Monday, 15 March 2004 03:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Collingwood easily, richmond are crap

Hawthorn, although the hype might go to their heads

Fremantle by plenty, the loss should be quite rightly blamed on nick stevens

Brisbane in a close game, Lions wont bother turning up till about round 17, but they dont need to because they are salary cap cheats -)

Saints by 5 goals plus

Power by plenty, Essenden are overated hacks, plus no fletcher

Kangaroos hopefully, with archer belting the bejeepers out of carey

West Coast by plenty, bulldogs are by far and away the worst side, with clearly the worst coach.

Sent by email from a user thought I'd do him the courtesy of a cut and paste job into the thread...

This email was sent by *********** (brissylions_rule@hotmail.com), a user of ilXor.com.

St.Kilda by 7
Port by 23
Crows by 32 (KANGAROOS ARE SHIT AND TO OLD)

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Sunday, 21 March 2004 04:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Lucy, how do you know the sender of the email was a 'user'?

Though to be fair their typing does suggest drug use of some kind.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Sunday, 21 March 2004 06:29 (twenty-one years ago)

When did Nick Stevens get suspended, and what for? If he thumped someone in a practice match and got nabbed, it's not a great start. Did he leave his brain behind in Adelaide?

Shows how far Carlton have sunk when their best recruit for years gets sent on a 'holiday' and it doesn't even rate a mention in the Press.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Sunday, 21 March 2004 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

a love tap to buckley?? or maybe holland in the prelim final, think the suspension carried over, well at least i hope it did

jsa, Sunday, 21 March 2004 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

"Lucy, how do you know the sender of the email was a 'user'?"

It was a wild guess Fred, but decided he definitely was, did the email go to all posters from this thread or just me?

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Monday, 22 March 2004 02:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't you love people who call you rude then proceed to YELL AT YOU. Goose.

REB's tips Round 1

Richmond - because Collingwood are crap
Melbourne - Hawks too many hurt in the back half
Fremantle - they won't lose too many over there
Sydney - match up well on the Lions who might be a bit slow out of the blocks
Geelong - cos I'm a one eyed Cats fan who will never learn
Port - love serving it to the Gliders at Girlee
Adelaide - will start off the season ok, the slump won't hit for a few matches imo
West Coast - not a great side in Melbourne but neither are the Dogs

regards,

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Monday, 22 March 2004 04:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Collingwood: because they might indeed be crap (I'd be happy to be convinced but so far I'm not) but Richmond are crapper

Hawthorn, too much talent sorry Neil but tough talk counts for diddly-squat even when it is convincing which your attempts at it ain't

Freo, if Carlton get within six goals it will be considered an encouraging effort

Sydney, who will chronically over-achieve for the second year running

Geelong, St Kilda will settle down again soon but not now, they're notoriously slow starters even without the 2004 distractions

Essendon, Port never win before the Showdown

Roos, cut & paste Rich v Coll comments except I am more convinced about Adelaide's imminent demise

Eagles, better, faster midfield, better following division, it won't get any easier for their midget forward line all season

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 22 March 2004 05:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Richmond to beat Collingwood. Can't wait to hear Eddie's winge (aka call) of the game.

Hawks in a close one.

Freo easily, then wait for the Victorians to winge about the heat. Imagine Brisbane or the Eagles or Dockers wingeing about playing in Melbourne in mid-winter!

Sydney might beat a depleted Lions, but either way it'll be a good game.

Geelong to turn the tables on the Saints.

Port to start with a win (for a change!)

Adelaide, but not by much.

Eagles too good for Dogs.

Chris H, Tuesday, 23 March 2004 04:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Richmond/Collingwood?? Both as bad as each other. Who really cares other than their supporters?

Hawthorn - could be one of the few for the season. Not convinced they're the goods.

Fremantle - they will do some good things this season. I can't wait to see Sandilands against some of the best in the competition. I have a big wrap for him and I don't even follow Freo.

Brisbane. Sydney to run out of emotion early in the season.

Geelong. Because REB's me mate and I think St Kilda wear fancy pants.

Essendon. Port Adelaide to rival Swans and Crows as sliders.

Nth Melbourne. Reasons stated above.

West Coast Eagles - check the size of the forward line Fred, when they line up.

Westener (Westener), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I tipped Collingwood last night ... great start
Hawthorn by 30 pts
Fremantle by 6
Bris Lions by 18
St Kilda by 9
Port Adelaide by 23
Kangaroos by 14
W Bulldogs by a mile in a bit of a suprise.

Hawka (hawka), Friday, 26 March 2004 21:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Still reckon Mick Malthouse is saving it up for Round 3 against the Lions!

Good to see Shane Morrison play a good game and can't believe Sookie Bubba Richardson once again kicked a bag.

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Saturday, 27 March 2004 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey Hawka how's that tipping competition going on your "allthestats" site?

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Saturday, 27 March 2004 02:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Nathan Brown played a top game first-up for his new club.

He has hence contributed more to Richmond than any Brown since dual-premiership wingman-cum-rover Billy packed it in in the early 70s.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Saturday, 27 March 2004 02:40 (twenty-one years ago)

And for whose benefit is that remark, Fred?

Perhaps you have misread my statements. I never said Mal Brown turned it on for Richmond.

I said that you Vics were all the worse off for not having seen him at his best.

Westener (Westener), Saturday, 27 March 2004 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Lady Lucy, I have decided rather than a tip all the games pre season comp (too late now anyway), I am going to try and build a weekly tipping comp and award "Brownlow" style votes each week. Not specifically for the most correct tips, but more for an outstanding tip/s. We'll see. It depends on time, which I haven't had much of lately.
You would be happy the Lions scrapped home. I feel sorry for that Sydney guy that should have won the game for them.
The hawks are off to an alright start, as are the Sainters (could be the first time they've topped the ladder since 98).
Some big wins in the first round though. 40, 49, 47 and 61 points with the odd one ... 2pts.
cheers ...

Hawka (hawka), Saturday, 27 March 2004 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

"And for whose benefit is that remark, Fred?"

Mine of course.

Thank you for your very strong entry to the 2004 'Anglers Dream' award.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Saturday, 27 March 2004 22:44 (twenty-one years ago)

We reeked. Again.

"You would be happy the Lions scrapped home. I feel sorry for that Sydney guy that should have won the game for them."

Very happy we scraped in a win. Moments of brilliance, and considering some were underdone they did really well. Leppa with no game time before last night did a good job. You could see his tackling was only second rate on occasion. It was a good tussle between Aker and Crouch - personally I think Aker won!

It was a great atmosphere at the ground and I can only see things getting better from here on - I hope

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

LL, I didn't get a chance to go this week (had to work) but very much looking forward to next Sunday at the G.

Having a quick look at the tips in this thread, I have to admit there have been some good calls so far ...
Chris H - 'Sydney might beat a depleted Lions, but either way it'll be a good game.'
LL- 'Daniher is wearing his best defeated face at the moment'
Reb - 'Richmond - because Collingwood are crap'
jsa - 'Fremantle by plenty', 'Saints by 5 goals plus' and 'Brisbane in a close game'

and some bad ones ...
me - tipping Collingwood ... I've been bagging them for the last couple years and I still tip them
jsa - 'Collingwood easily, richmond are crap' (you could call this a clanger)
LL - 'Geelong (Saints probably can't reproduce the same passion as the Whiz Final)'
brissylions_rule - 'Collingwood by 41' .. just a little out
Reb - 'Melbourne - Hawks too many hurt in the back half'

Despite a clanger, jsa BOG so far.

Hawka (hawka), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Hawka dont forget

Power by plenty, Essenden are overated hacks, plus no fletcher

jsa, Sunday, 28 March 2004 21:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Have to agree jsa - great tipping. Hope you had plenty of money on it!

Still cant believe Collingwood got done so badly - don't get me wrong I'm happy they got done, just surprised.

Hopefully Round 2 will be a better lot of tipping for me!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Sunday, 28 March 2004 23:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I was crapola but at least I got Hawthorn and the Roos right.

The Ess-Port game is extremely significant for both sides. A couple of Port wins now gives them a safety-valve later on, which might have benefits at the business end of the season. About Essendon, the less said the better.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 29 March 2004 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Where's REB??

Maybe wallsy was right REB??

What a dirty weekend, geelong flogged, norwood flogged, coach up on drink driving, tells his players they are weak?? one hopes u won the cricket grandfinal

jsa, Monday, 29 March 2004 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

From what I saw on Friday night, the Pies are favourites for bottom 4 right now.

A hearltess, insipiod pissweak performance reminiscent of the dark tony shaw days.

If it wasn't for Lord Bucks, they would have lost by 15 goals.

ps - Rocca back this week , look out Footascray!

Bennö (Bennö), Monday, 29 March 2004 03:19 (twenty-one years ago)

"About Essendon, the less said the better."

The less said about what?

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 29 March 2004 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

“We let down not only ourselves but (coach) Gary (Ayres), our supporters and the whole club in general,” Goodwin said before the Crows trained indoors at ETSA Park, home of South Australian netball, on Monday.

Westener (Westener), Monday, 29 March 2004 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps the girls were giving some advice.

Westener (Westener), Monday, 29 March 2004 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Cheers Jase, yep, a carp week for my footy sides but nothing new there. What IS new is that we won our cricket granny so I wouldn't say it was a bad weekend :)

...there's always next week so the story goes..

regards,

REB
