Wake up you Lot!! aka Doubting the Bombers thread

Come on you lot, the season starts tonight and tumbleweeds are blowing across this site undisturbed!!

My current gripe is about how everyone is saying 'watch out for the Bombers' and 'Essendon for the Granny' or even 'Essendon for Premiers' for fuggs sake.

I reckon if they can't beat Port the doubts could surface early...no James, Stevens, Franco and Primus is apparently dodgy as well. If Primus misses and the Bombers STILL can't beat the Power then a top two finish is about as likely as Geelong winning a grand final.

Are the Gliders that good? REB thinks NOT.

REB

Agree REB, i think the saints showed up the old problem, they lack pace in the midfield, and nothing seems to have changed.

WTF's happening at norwood?? Coach on drink driving charges?? Didnt think macca enjoyed chardonnay

jsa, Friday, 26 March 2004 01:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Besides Erik's points, as I mentioned in earlier dispatches you can just about forget Port before the first Showdown.

If Essendon don't win this, I'd say there'd be very little for Medium Sized Kev to get excited about all season. A lot of 'experts' are holding off on making the Big Statement about Essendon's demise because they are afraid of being wrong.

"REB thinks NOT."

Love your work REB. :-)

"I reckon if they can't beat Port the doubts could surface early...no James, Stevens, Franco and Primus "

We have just as many top line line players out as they do.

chrisso (chrisso), Friday, 26 March 2004 06:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Come on chrisso. You have two top liners and both are playing. I can't say anything though (especially after your cruel editing job above :)....we don't have ANY top liners.

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Friday, 26 March 2004 06:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Everybody who picked Essendon for the Top 4 thru sheer force of habit might turn out to be 12 places out.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 01:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Two words, Fred: Round one.

chrisso (chrisso), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:50 (twenty-two years ago)

two numbers chrisso ; 9 6

jsa, Tuesday, 30 March 2004 04:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, jsa, it was a hiding. Your boys are a very good team pre-September and they will do the same to a lot of teams this year prior to the real stuff.

chrisso (chrisso), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 09:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Fair point chrisso

jsa, Tuesday, 30 March 2004 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

That was lame Jase. His mob can't beat your mob in September now can they. You are like the Cows mate..slipping big time!

REB, old son beating essendon is nothing to hang ya hat on (they are out bitches), im talking sydney, hawthorn, collingwood and brisbane

jsa, Thursday, 1 April 2004 02:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Lol@REB. If I didn't know better I would think you were trying to cause a fight. It aint hard to fool a Power fan though, they all think they have a chance this year, ah don't you just love September. Don't choke! Bwahahahahahahahahaha.

chrisso (chrisso), Thursday, 1 April 2004 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Good point Chrisso, Port's record in finals is bloody awful, against every other team they've played, except one....

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Thursday, 1 April 2004 09:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Party pooper.LOL!

Damn.

Rohan Connolly stirring up his own team in this morning's Age

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Saturday, 3 April 2004 08:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Four words, Fred: You may be right. :-(

I'll jump on the doubting Bombers bandwagon. We are way to slow to compete with the big guns, the immediate future is very bleak IMO.

chrisso (chrisso), Sunday, 4 April 2004 09:03 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
What I want to know is how the hell did Port pump us by so much, and yet get thumped by Adelaide last week and then the result on Friday?

Footy is indeed a funny old game. Sort of good to see the King show a bit of the old imperial magic again though guys? Used to make a habit of saving his best for us in his boom years/ decade...brought back a few ugly memories.:-)

chrisso (chrisso), Sunday, 16 May 2004 01:51 (twenty-one years ago)

No James Hird next week Chrisso? Start composing the excuses champ :P

REB you are a rare bird, a cocky Cat!LOL

You wont here me talking up our chances this week, I'll stay quiet.:-)

Seriously, can't wait for Saturday, should be an absolute beaut. How will your boys react under the pressure of a full house at the Dome? Good acid test for September maybe? Can Scarlett shut Lloyd down again? Oh the possibilities!:-)

chrisso (chrisso), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

A rare bird indeed the quiet Bomber LOL. Scarlo and Harley will put on a clinic to celebrate their hundredth match and we will do you for pace.

...he says...

I reckon your boys match up very well on our talls, but I'm wondering who Thomo will play on Lovett-Murray and Cupido, they may be a problem. I hope Sheeds puts M Johnson on Ablett that would be a good contest.

chrisso (chrisso), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 03:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Good call chrisso, yes, the Cats do have more difficulty matching up on the small forwards, Davey thrashed us last week. Did you read the list of Cats who weren't in last week's side pushing for a game this week? It's a fairly lengthy list.

We are currently experiencing the same 'problems'. Makes for a nice change.

chrisso (chrisso), Thursday, 20 May 2004 03:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Do any want to play for the Pies tonight?

They are sending out a TAC CUp side instead

Susso. Get ready to sweat, the Catters are coming for you and we know how your old farts play against a side that runs and likes to bounce the ball....

SSssshhh!! I'm still having St Kilda flashbacks.:-(
We didn't have the Johnson's or McVeigh for most of that match and JJ makes a huge difference for us in the middle, so I believe we have gotten a bit better in this area.

chrisso (chrisso), Friday, 21 May 2004 03:20 (twenty-one years ago)

The Johnson's can play but McVeigh isn't much chop.

ER...make that isn't MUCH chop.

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Friday, 21 May 2004 03:33 (twenty-one years ago)

He can take dangerous players out of a game for us. If he was 100% he would play on young Ablett.

chrisso (chrisso), Friday, 21 May 2004 03:53 (twenty-one years ago)

<<He can take dangerous players out of the game for us.>>

Got it in one there, chrisso. He took out Hird in Perth last year.

Westener (Westener), Friday, 21 May 2004 04:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha. Nice one Westy. I take back everything nasty I've ever said about you. Well, maybe not EVERYTHING.

Bombers to slide....

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Friday, 21 May 2004 04:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Is there a side more reliant on 1 player then essendon???

jsa, Sunday, 23 May 2004 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

If you have the capacity to think back more than one week you will remember that Essendon beat the Crows without Hird only 10 days ago. I admit the Crows are not a big scalp these days but not everybody has been able to beat them lately......

Have they, Jase?

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 24 May 2004 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

correct chrisso, but not wanting to make excuses, we might have had, umm 10 players out, so to lose was no big deal, youve had a couple of players out only and been towelled up.

Still believe essendon out of all clubs is the most reliant on 1 player, with collingwood being second.

jsa, Monday, 24 May 2004 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Wrong Jase. It has to be Richmond and Matty Richardson. Richo doesn't play for a few weeks, Tigers 16th.

Richo comes back kicks seven then ten Tigers 9th. Richo goes missing at Girlee Stadium against half of Port Poower and they are thrashed.

There you go...it's all in black and yellow mate.

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 02:48 (twenty-one years ago)

REB, you have to be a reasonable side to have reliance, richmond = crap so they arent considered. Im talking the sides that can and have actually made the finals.

jsa, Tuesday, 25 May 2004 02:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I made the big mistake of assuming that Richmond were in fact an AFL standard club last week and paid the price in my footy tips!
