(does he actually say that in the first book? anyway)

i am thinking i should read all these, which i haven't since i had a couple at like thirteen, where my reactions were
i) hm these are in some way different to the movies i cannot quite parse it;
ii) do i really want to read like forty of these? or fifty. there must be fifty;
iii) and will they all have bond's genitals being whacked by a fireplace poker for ten pages? because i am not cool with that

so, okay, i gather i was not all that OTM at thirteen. and i think i shall read all - what is it? 12? 13? - of'em, bcz my reading habits are going all OCD this year - all of philip k dick is coming along okay, as is all-of-cerebus.

so, tell me about bond! please!

(is it actually a fireplace poker in the scene i'm thinking of?) (i may have decided on this after looking up 'poker' on wikipedia and coming across the brilliant disambiguation notice:

This article is about the card game. For the domestic fireplace tool, see fireplace poker.)

I thought this was going to be a game. You know, BAM! James BAM!

Or Bus, James Bus.

No?

How about Breakers' Yard, James Breakers' Yard?

If you read all of Bond you also have to read Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. It's the law.

It's a carpet beater, in Casino Royale, which I also found a tad disturbing when I was but a callow youth. Interestingly (or not, depending on your point of view), I've just finished 54 by Wu Ming, in which Cary Grant gets given a copy of Casino Royale by a member of MI6 (or maybe MI5), who thinkis that it's rubbish, and Cary Grant isn't much more impressed.
