Other Comedic Memoirs and Klosterman-esque books?

I just finished Chuck Klosterman's "Killing Yourself to Live," which, unsurprisingly, I enjoyed tremendously. He's probably my favorite author right now and I was wondering if there were other books that implored a "Klosterman-esque" style (i.e. a mix a pop culture and humor). Any other comedic memoirs like "Killing Yourself..," Paul Feig's "Loser Goes First," or Dan Kennedy's "Loser Goes First."? Stuff like Sedaris? I hope this is clear enough. Thank you in advance.

If you liked Killing Yourself to Live, then maybe that Sarah Vowell book where she visits all of the sites of presidential assassinations?

Edit: Paul Feig's book was "Kick Me."

I don't know Klosterman, but there seem to be no shortage of books such as the ones being listed. I tend to think of (and usually enjoy, enough) Joe Queenan or Will Ferguson (or Sedaris) for that sort of thing. Jack Douglas's "Shut Up And Eat Your Snowshoes!" is a older classic that I love, although I have no idea how much truthiness is involved with it.

read some Mencken.

Klosterman is exactly the kind of self-serving cultural snake oil salesman whom Mencken would've skewered on a hot stick, like a chiropractor or country preacher pandering to the booboise (sic).

"assassination vacation" is terrific, way way better than vowell's other books. you should check it out even if you think you don't like her.

yeah i enjoyed assasination vacation. neal pollack might be the best suggestion since he provokes the same 'somebody kill this douchebag' revulsion in me, neal (neil?) strauss also (have all 3 written for spin?). john leonard maybe?

Dan Kennedy's Loser Goes First is awesome.

i think i read a compilation of excerpts from some transsexual memoirs that ames compiled? not sure. it was ok. kinda boring, actually. but if you like chuck klosterman you probably like things that are really boring anyway, so yes, highly recommended. oh, it was called "sexual metamorphoses."

p.s. gear otm. way more important.

I heard Klosterman interviewed on the radio the other day. He did not show many signs of a sense of humour and made some dull points about people becoming untouchable after they die (no, really?) which did not make me want to buy his book.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Sunday, 26 February 2006 11:39 (nineteen years ago)

Untouchable, like, literally?
