Dorothy Sayers: Where do I start?

Having never read a single word by Dorothy Sayers before...

At the begining, of course! The Lord Peter Whimsey/Harriet Vane novels are progressive w/r/t character development especially so start with Whose Body?, then Clouds of Witness, then Unnatural Death, etc etc.

Absolutely agree with Laurel. The later books assume a knowledge of the development of the characters and the things they've done in the earlier books.

If you don't feel like reading all of the Wimsey books straight through, I recommend Murder Must Advertise, and then three in the Harriet Vane storyline: Strong Poison, Have His Carcase and Gaudy Night, in that order. There's a fourth Harriet Vane book, Busman's Holiday, but imo it isn't quite as good as the previous three.

Yes she is (I think...long time since I read them), and that's the last book and very relevant to the relationship between Wimsey and Vane.
