According to this site: http://www.etymonline.com/ it doesn't seem to.
I can think of at least a few other similar past tense cases: ride and rode, bide and bode, smite and smote.

But it's hard to think of other cases like that -- buy and bought is the closest thing I can come up with.

Older forms of English were really into have that vowel change indicate tense.
