Lost Poems in Computer Crash

There is a poem in one of Anne Lamott's books that was read at the funeral of a character named Jessie, I believe. I think the poem was called or began; "I forget....."

And another poem entitled, The Merman which began; " you sleep as though under water...."

I can't recall the author's names and would like to find them again.

Anyone?

A friend of mine lost years worth of his poems in a computer crash. I thought this might be about him, even though he isn't anyone anyone has heard of.

Sorry, can't help much although there are poems called 'The Merman' by both Tennyson and Owen Barfield (the Tennyson doesn't contain the line you mention though, and I can't find the text to Barfield's online). There's also 'The Forsaken Merman' by Matthew Arnold but again the text doesn't seem to fit.

No idea about the first one - there's no obvious candidates that I can find. One of the classic 'funeral poems' does talk about forgetting though: 'Remember' by Christina Rossetti.
