Fellow ILBers... I have just finished Ulysses (loved it) and am trying to decide what to read next...
Should I...
A) read more Joyce, now that I'm in tune to him
B) Avoid all things modernist/Irish/weighty for at least as long as it took to read Ulysses (a month, give or take)
C) read tripe, get it over with and get on to the next good book
D) re-read Ulysses
E) Your suggestion here __________
thanks -- Dave

You should become obssessed with the Seattle World's Fair, the Space Needle and the Seattle monorail. It is your destiny.

I hear some people are thinking of organizing a Wake reading group this summer.

Hmmmm, Aimless, did you know I live in Mukilteo? or are you currently obsessed with these things yourself?
Chris -- I was just reading about a group in boston who have been reading FW since 1996, i think, and have only gotten 270 or so pages into it...they meet and read aloud. i was going to link to it on another thread.

did you read Portrait of the Artist before Ulysses?
if not you should read that next, if you have might as well go on to Dubliners

Read some Flann O'Brien.

I knew nothing; nothing, I tell you! It seemed randomly appropriate. The shocking truth is that I do not know what you should do next. Shoot me! I'm useless!

Ha. I read that as "Shoot me! I'm Ulysses!"

Mukilteo?! Head on down I-5 and meet us for dinner tomorrow night at Roti on lower Queen Anne! I have a book for you.

After I read GR and then Ulysses last year, I read some Muriel Spark and some light fluffy things, then read Lanark and then The Crying of Lot 49. Months later, bits of both GR and Ulysses keep resurfacing (last night at a motel in a small town, I spotted a brochure for something "Enzian" and said aloud Enzian was blue and yellow, taking myself aback) and now I'm thinking it's time to reread them both again. So I vote for read some other stuff, then come back to it.

Jaq -- sorry i missed your invite...the wife and I were heading over the pass to Twisp. A few days in the mountains, sitting next to a stream swollen with spring runoff, listening to birdsong, basking in sun filtered through ponderosa pine...
reading 'Assasination Vacation' and 'Hard Boiled Wonderland and the end of the world'
playing with my son (who is 2 and has found the joy of throwing rocks into a stream)

I'd say that beats indian food w/ ILXors in the area of Seattle where all streets were under construction any day.
