Has anyone read Zulfikar Ghose?

A book about him landed on my desk recently and he seems like an intriguing author:

I haven't read him. But Zulfikar was the name of Hannibal's father.

What? Hannibal's father was -- oh, either Hamilcar or Hasdrubal.

Assuming that Hannibal really existed.

Well now I'll have to go look it up. Sorry to derail the thread.

I don't think it's going to get much more traffic anyway. Maybe I will just read something by him, so I can become the like Zulfikhar Ghose expert. I'm in a rare mood for novel reading right now.

OK. The father was Hamilcar Barca. Hannibal's kid brother was Hasdrubal Barca.

I don't know why the name Zulfikar Barca is so firmly lodged in my head, because none of the famous Barcids seem to have carried that name. Perhaps it is just the euphony of it that sank its barbs into me.

Is there, uh, doubt that Hannibal existed?

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 7 May 2006 18:17 (nineteen years ago)

I think there are some fringe historians who have tried to cast doubt on Hannibal's existence as an actual historical person, claiming that he's a kind of folk hero figure. I was just being silly.
