Love Arsene Lupin. My French reading skills are not all they should be, so Arsene Lupin is my go-to when I want to make myself read a book in French.

Might vote Wind in the Willows though.

Schnitzler is a really great writer, read many of his novellas but I had no idea he wrote a novel

House on the Borderland is the only one I've read and I loved it. A visionary work that employs what I'd call much more modern cinematic techniques such as timelapse effects to dramatic ends,and some truly terrifying horror imagery

I tried reading The Night Land, and just couldn't get past his amateurish style.

I haven't read the Forster, which seems like the canonical choice here

I liked the Bennett but otherwise don't remember a thing about it

The Perfume of the Lady in Black is a decent follow-up to The Mystery of the Yellow Room, but neither of those are as good as The Circular Staircase, better known in its film versions as The Bat

I voted for The House on the Borderland, a classic of cosmic horror, dog latin otm ... but I haven't been able to get started with The Night Land either

Is this the same as the film? I didn't know it was Leroux.

The only ones I've read are two of the children's books, so not really motivated to vote.

there's a 1931 film adaptation of Leroux's The Perfume of the Lady in Black but I think the 1974 giallo just borrows the title

agree that the house on the borderland is great - a must read for weird fiction fans - and the night land is unreadable. carnacki and his pirate stories are entirely meh.
