Definitive Da Vinci biography

I think the extreme hype surrounding the Da Vinci Code has finally gotten to me. Can anyone recommend notable biographies that have been written about Da Vinci?

I like the chapter in Giorgio Vasari's Lives of the Artists, though hardly definitive.

Though I must confess that I haven't read it yet, Charles Nicholl's Leonardo da Vinci: Flights of the Mind is receiving rave reviews.
