I've always loved fantasy maps that had little buildings marking settlements/cities. Even better if the buildings are done in a kind of perspective.

“It was like the Velvet Underground of fantasy mapmaking,” Jason Fry, a co-author of “Star Wars: The Essential Atlas” (2009, with Daniel Wallace), said in an interview about “The Atlas of Middle-earth.” “Everyone who read it went out and got graph paper and mapped something.”

― mookieproof, Monday, 27 January 2025 02:48 (one year ago)
I was looking for graph paper recently, and lamenting the demise of stationary stores
I def made some maps and had graph paper books. iirc Judges Guild made, like, blank fantasy map books with hex, big graph, small graph, and maybe other templates.
