I grew up speaking Qatari Arabic and Persian but sadly illiterate in both :(

Guess a separate thread for Arabic and Persian would yield even less but yes, point taken.

I can recommend the Robert Irwin-edited anthology “Night And Horses And The Desert”!

Fady Joudah's reading at the night-before-the-awards nat'l book award thing knocked me flat. He's legit imo

I really enjoyed The Queue by Basma Abdel Aziz. A dystopian/depressingly realistic bureaucratic satire, I guess 'Kafka in the contemporary Middle East' would be the catchy tagline? Not particularly innovative or experimental in its literary style but a solid read, would recommend.
