it can be literally anything

I like the idea of dog eating homework and turning in the dog so if the dog eats the swearing in bible or whatever I really want there to be a procedural issue that forces me to ceremonially rub the dog's belly or I won't be considered truly sworn in.

tough question. politics is a tough job for anyone not willing to submerge their own convictions to further the common good. I think you have to go into it knowing that a delicate conscience is going to get pummeled and kneaded without mercy. hence, choosing anything but a socially accepted sacred book would mark you out as a foreign object the system will try to reject. choosing where to make your stands is critical.

My guess is yes, somewhat different. I think a highly public and open embrace of hitler from the first moment he took office would've left a lot of R's in Congress pretty shook and def could have led to more pushback and uproar in general. Including less complacency from the SCOTUS (apart from Alito and Thomas) about granting his emergency appeals using the shadow docket.

i'd like to agree with you, but we've had a full decade now of anyone with any possible veto completely ignoring anything this guy -- who is possibly the worst person in the world! -- has done

Used to have a colleague who reheated smoked haddock in the microwave at work. The smell would permeate the entire office for hours.
