It was about Sor Juana, the Mexican poet, called Hunger's Brides or something. This was apparently the story within a story of the longer book, which was set in the present day. Anybody know anything about this? Somebody with a Spanish connection- PJ Miller? Somebody with a lot of reading stamina- Jerry The Nipper?

(Those -'s in the title are bugging me)

But they're grammatically correct.

so the abridgement only happened before and after the complete story-within-a-story? like when the seducer's diary is excerpted from either/or?

one year passes...

I think there is a framing story about an Canadian literature student and then the story-within-the-story of Sor Juana. I think some editor encouraged the guy to beef up the frame so the book was even longer. Then after publication the publisher created another version that removed it entirely.

I actually took this out of the library and didn't get around to reading it. Way to heavy to carry around on the subway. Think I'll wait for the e-book.

I am lobbying the library to put the weights of books in the catalog.
