Anyone help with finding an obscure sci-fi book?

It was about a cat, a colony of cats I think. It may have been called Solo, that was the lead characters name. He was a cat.

I'm not really a cat person, this was one of the first 'grown-up' books I read - it appealed to the young me because it had talking animals in it.

I can't find it on Amazon.
