Books on History of US-Mexico Relations

I know this is a bit abstruse, or something, but please recommend books on the history of the US relationship with Mexico, with an emphasis on economics? (Preferably one that will make me feel guilty, but it doesn't have it.) I guess I am trying to get a larger picture of the illegal immigrant issue. I'm not sure I accept the progressive line on it at this point, but (unsurprisingly) conservatives tend to wildly overlook the large economic context in such cases.

McWilliams "North From Mexico" is a classic on immigration, tho somewhat dated now. Can't think of any good real history books that'll give enough of the current context which is very much determined by NAFTA. you hardly need a history book to see what that's meant tho. Any good economic history of mexico will deal plenty with the u.s. relationship in any case, since its sort of unavoidable.
