frm 'The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter'.

a) What an amazing line! Tell me about your experiences of finding Carson McCullers amazing.

b) Who told her? I have never read this feeling referred to, let alone surmised so perfectly, in any male writer* - why not?

*c) EXCEPT that I sort of feel that much, maybe even most, of 'Brief Interviews With Hideous Men' is totally concerned with exactly this feeling, analysing it & exploring its causes and consequences... do you agree?

For me it started with the beautiful 'A Member of the Wedding' and went from there. So far, 'The Heart..." is the only book of hers I haven't read. I've had it for a while, but have been putting it off because then there'll be nothing left.

Isn't that sort of what The Minister's Black Veil is about?

Oh! That's a good point.

I should read more of her. Only read "The Heart..........". One of the two best novels I've read (for the first time) in the past 5 years, the other being Bulgakov.

I only bring up that story because I re-read it recently. It's amazing.

Well I mean I bring it up because it's relevant too.
